Inter Miami Confirms Game vs Al-Nassr

Dubbed ‘The Last Dance’ Since This Could Be the Last Messi vs Ronaldo Game

A Marketing Ploy? Yes, But Who Cares?

A game between Messi and Ronaldo, dubbed ‘The Last Dance,’ which was initially announced by a Saudi Pro League journalist last month to be then denied by Inter Miami, is now happening again!

I covered both stories last month; the announcement of a clash between Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr, and then, the disheartening denial from Miami that they hadn’t made any arrangements, claiming false news and soccer rumors .

So, naturally, I feel like a dummy for announcing this breaking soccer news to you again, and I’m in a psychological predicament where I’ll believe it when I see it.

Riyadh Cup: More Than Soccer

Sure, David Beckham’s MLS squad has officially announced their participation in the Riyadh Cup, but you best believe this isn’t about soccer. It’s a huge marketing ploy to drive even more interest and generate more revenue for the two clubs that play outside of soccer’s major leagues (European divisions) but house the G.O.A.T.S of the sport, albeit during the twilight stages of their respective careers.

‘The Last Dance.’ Huh? You’d think this was a boxing event. But it’s nothing more than a 90-minute friendly. Furthermore, it’s not even guaranteed that Ronaldo and Messi will play; injuries and international schedules could hinder this outcome.

And let’s not ignore the elephant in the room, shall we? ‘The Last Dance’ is completely speculative. Neither one of these soccer stars has announced their retirement; there is a strong possibility that this matchup between Messi and Ronaldo will not be their last.

Messi vs Ronaldo: Future Clashes

Depending on the remaining duration of their careers, there may be several future encounters between the Argentine and Portuguese players. The potential exists for future profitable and amicable meetings planned between Al-Nassr and Inter Miami, particularly if the Riyadh Season Cup battle proceeds as intended.

International games also allow the duo to compete against one another. Argentina and Portugal continue to perform exceptionally well in their respective teams. The next Copa America and Euro 2024 competitions offer a chance for these two nations to engage in warm-up matches.

Nevertheless, nothing is definitive. There is a possibility that the Riyadh Season Cup might be the last occasion Messi and Ronaldo face one another, but it is premature to make any assumptions. Both players still have considerable time remaining in their professional careers.

Perhaps I’m being overly optimistic, but can you blame me for having trust issues with the back-and-forth nonsense that’s brought us to this point?
