Securing two knockdowns in the twelfth round, Berlanga finished strong and emerged victorious with a unanimous decision after twelve rounds at Madison Square Garden in New York.

In a unanimous decision, the judges favored Edgar Berlanga. However, Berlanga’s failure to secure a knockout in his fifth consecutive fight may hinder his chances of facing Canelo Alvarez. Jason Quigley, who had previously suffered a two-round knockout against Demetrius Andrade in 2021, effectively employed movement and counterpunching tactics throughout the match. Quigley capitalized on Berlanga’s slow hand speed and erratic swings. Berlanga found success only when Quigley backed up against the ropes and attempted counters from that position. It was during these instances that Quigley was dropped in the third and twelfth rounds, courtesy of Berlanga’s powerful right-hand chops to the head. If Quigley had stayed in the center of the ring, he likely would have avoided being knocked down. Following the fight, Berlanga issued a challenge to Jaime Munguia, a fighter promoted by Golden Boy Promotions. The potential match between Berlanga and Munguia remains uncertain due to tensions between promoter Oscar De La Hoya and Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn.
