Fulham Team Stats History

Worshippers at a local church founded Fulham St Andrew’s Church Sunday School F.C. in 1879. The church still stands and Fulham remains the oldest soccer club in London. The “Cottagers” have played at their home ground Craven Cottage since 1896.

Fulham F.C. became professional in 1898 and entered the Southern League first division in 1902-03. Two of the first trophies in the Fulham team stats were Southern League trophies in 1906 and 1907. After winning back-to-back titles, Fulham joined the Football League and started in the Second Division. That same season, they made a run to the semifinals of the FA Cup.

The Cottagers came close to promotion to the top tier on a couple of occasions but stayed in the second and third tiers until 1949. By winning the Second Division, they earned the first top-tier promotion in the Fulham team stats. Fulham survived three seasons in the First Division before getting relegated.

Club legends like Johnny Haynes and Graham Leggat played for Fulham in the 1950s but they had to wait until 1959 to return to the top flight. This time around, Fulham’s stay was seven years but they constantly battled relegation. Suffering consecutive relegations, the Lily Whites were playing in the Third Division by 1969.

Over the next 25 years, Fulham bounced around the second and third tiers of English soccer. They did make their only FA Cup final in 1975, though. Their nadir was from 1994-97 when they were playing in the fourth tier. However, their rise to the Premier League was rapid.

With promotions in 1997, 1999 and 2001, Fulham climbed three levels in the English soccer pyramid in just four years. Incredibly, they won European silverware in 2002 as one of three UEFA Intertoto Cup winners. Fulham established themselves as a bonafide Premier League club as their first spell in the top flight lasted 13 years.

Their highest-ever Premier League finish was seventh place, in 2008-09. One of the most notable achievements in club history is reaching the final of the 2010 Europa League, where they lost to Atletico Madrid. En route to the final, they overturned a two-goal deficit to Juventus, by beating them 4-0 at home.

Fulham returned to the Premier League in both 2018 and 2020 but were relegated on both occasions. Under Marco Silva, Fulham dominated the EFL Championship in 2022 and are back in the EPL for 2022-23. The EPL odds list Fulham as the third-most likely team to be relegated, at +120. Betting advice often mentions the goal-scoring ability of star striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who scored 43 times in 44 Championship games last season.
