Bundesliga: SC Freiburg vs Dortmund Odds

Freiburg Coming Off Big Loss

Dortmund With Just One Win Through Three Matches

Bundesliga Matchday 3 was highly disappointing for both SC Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund. Freiburg fell 5-0 to Stuttgart in one of their biggest losses in recent memory. Meanwhile, Dortmund blew a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with newly-promoted Heidenheim. Both sides will look for a bounce back when they meet on Saturday in Freiburg. In a match between two teams involved in UEFA competitions, we’ll preview the SC Freiburg vs Dortmund odds.

SCF SC Freiburg vs Borussia Dortmund BVB

Date & Time:
Location: Europa-Park Stadion, Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

Head-to-Head:

Last season, Borussia Dortmund defeated SC Freiburg twice in their meetings on the Bundesliga schedule. Dortmund outscored Freiburg 8-2 over two matches, with eight different goalscorers. In all competitions, Dortmund has won the last three meetings, while Freiburg has won two of the previous five. This has been a high-scoring fixture in recent years, as the last six head-to-head matchups have finished with three or more goals.

Freiburg Back at Home After Defeat

SC Freiburg has narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification in the last two seasons. Under Christian Streich, Freiburg has turned into one of the most formidable teams in the Bundesliga. However, it didn’t appear that way in their last match before the international break. Freiburg went down 3-0 at Stuttgart at halftime and conceded two more goals to fall 5-0.

On Saturday, Freiburg will be back home, where they lost just three times last season. Here, the Freiburg vs Dortmund odds price the hosts as +220 underdogs. Vincenzo Grifo and Michael Gregoritsch were Freiburg’s two leading scorers in the Bundesliga stats last season. However, neither of them has found the net yet this season. In fact, Freiburg have scored just three goals in their first three games.

SC Freiburg have been wasteful with their chances as they’ve managed 54 shots in their first three games. Two Freiburg starters are out for this match, as Lucas Holer and Christian Gunter are both injured. Regardless, expect the Breisgau Brazilians to be motivated for this match.

Dortmund’s Disappointing Start

After defeating FC Koln 1-0 in their first match of the Bundesliga season, Borussia Dortmund have drawn their last two matches. Donyell Malen scored the winner vs. Koln and the Netherlands international also scored Dortmund’s only goal in the draw vs. Bochum. Malen couldn’t make it three games in a row with a goal vs. Heidenheim but Julian Brandt scored a stunner to put Dortmund ahead.

Emre Can converted on a penalty to put BVB up 2-0 within 15 minutes. Dortmund couldn’t kill off the game, as Heidenheim scored two goals to equalize in the second half. Now, Dortmund are in ninth place in the Bundesliga standings. Pressure is building on coach Edin Terzic, especially after how last season ended. All Borussia Dortmund needed to do was defeat Mainz at home on the last day of the season to win the title but could only manage a 2-2 draw.

So, Bayern Munich won their 11th straight title and Dortmund are already four points behind both them and Bayer Leverkusen. Dortmund recently signed 2022-23 Bundesliga top scorer Niclas Fullkrug to boost their attack but he’s now out with an injury, along with Thomas Meunier. Striker Sebastien Haller is yet to get on the scoresheet this season. He also conceded the penalty that allowed Heidenheim to equalize in Dortmund’s last match.

Match Analysis & Odds

Notably, SC Freiburg have lost just two of their last six matches vs. Borussia Dortmund at home. Still, the Freiburg vs Dortmund odds price the hosts as underdogs for this one. Freiburg pk, +0.5 comes in at +105 odds after their five-goal loss at Stuttgart. Borussia Dortmund is just 1-2 ATS so far and BVB pk, -0.5 displays -125 odds.

Neither team has been able to get much going offensively so far as they’ve both scored just three goals from open play. Still, over three goals sit at -130 odds as this has been a high-scoring fixture in recent teams. Freiburg’s defense also looked incredibly shaky in the loss vs. Stuttgart and Dortmund collapsed in the second half vs. Heidenheim.

Heading into the Champions League opener next week, Dortmund will certainly want to get a win here. They’re +105 moneyline favorites and have scored 13 goals in their last three games vs. SC Freiburg. Other picks on the odds board include Freiburg’s moneyline at +219 and a draw at +290.
