Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig

Date, time:

Head-to-Head

This is the second season in a row punters can take the Bayern Munich vs. RB Leipzig betting odds in the DFL-Supercup. In 2022, Bayern Munich won an eight-goal thriller, 5-3, but led 3-0 at halftime. However, RB Leipzig did go unbeaten in this fixture in the Bundesliga in 2022-23. In May, they got their first-ever win at the Allianz Stadium and drew 1-1 at Red Bull Arena. Overall, Bayern have lost just one of the last 12 meetings.

Bayern Go For Fourth Straight Supercup

Bayern Munich have won the Bundesliga a record 11 years in a row, and this is their 12th straight appearance in the DFL-Supercup. Bayern Munich’s schedule in the 2023-24 Bundesliga opens up with Werder Bremen, but first they take on RB Leipzig. Bayern have won the Supercup three times in a row and have won seven of the last 11.

Ahead of this season, they’ve lost some key names, including Sadio Mane and Lucas Hernandez. Bayern are still going after Harry Kane and has already brought in Kim Min-Jae, Konrad Laimer and Raphael Guerreiro. However, Guerreiro, along with Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting are all injured. Sven Ulreich is set to replace Neuer in goal, as Yann Sommer recently left for Inter Milan.

Regardless, Bayern are favorites for this match. A quick look at the historical Bayern Munich standings makes it easy to see why. They’ve won the most-ever Supercups, with ten and counting. Even without Mane, who left for Saudi Arabia, Bayern have many attacking weapons. Kingsley Coman, Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane are all more than serviceable. After all, Musiala scored the goal in last season’s finale, winning Bayern the title.

This could also be a breakout season for Mathys Tel, the 18-year-old French striker who scored five times in 22 Bundesliga appearances. While Bayern may not have the same firepower they had with Robert Lewandowski, they’re still Germany’s most dangerous team.

Leipzig Sell Some of Their Best Players in Transfer Window

Last season, Christopher Nkunku led RB Leipzig with 16 Bundesliga goals despite being limited to just 25 appearances due to injury. The talented French attacker was also the Bundesliga’s 2021-22 Player of the Season. This Summer, he departed for Chelsea for a reported €60 million.

Leipzig then sold attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai to Liverpool for €70 million. Most recently, Manchester City made a huge €90 million offer for center back Josko Gvardiol that RB Leipzig simply couldn’t refuse.

Even though they’ve lost three of their best players, RB Leipzig still figure to be a popular pick for betting on soccer this season. They’ve signed striker Lois Openda from Lens to help soften the blow of losing Nkunku. Leipzig also brought in Benjamin Sesko, Christoph Baumgartner, Nicolas Seiwald, El Chadaille Bitshiabu on permanent deals. Youngsters Fabio Carvalho and Xavi Simons are also at Leipzig for the 2023-24 season on loan.

To close out the 2022-23 season, RB Leipzig won their final seven matches, in all competitions. That includes a win over Bayern Munich, two over SC Freiburg, and a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the DFB-Pokal final. The goalscorers in that match were Nkunku and Szoboszlai and it appears Leipzig will rely heavily on Openda and Timo Werner for goals this season.

Baumgartner, Amadou Haidara and Lukas Klostermann and Peter Gulasci are injured for RB Leipzig. So, both teams have their number-one keepers out here and Janis Blaswich filled in admirably for Gulacsi toward the end of last season.

Match Analysis & Odds

This is Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig’s fourth-ever meeting in a cup competition. In the previous three, Bayern have two 90-minute wins, and there’s been one draw. Back in the DFB-Pokal in 2017, Bayern won on penalties following a 1-1 draw. Here, the Bayern Munich vs. RB Leipzig betting odds price Bayern as one-goal favorites.

The Bavarians show -110 odds to cover the spread, but only two of the last nine matchups have finished with a multi-goal Bayern win. Meanwhile Leipzig +1 sits at -120 odds. Bayern are at an advantage here as the match is being played in Munich.

They display -165 odds to win the match in 90 minutes and RB Leipzig are +370 underdogs. In the case of a draw, the match will go directly to a penalty shootout instead of extra time. A draw is priced at +320 odds, as four of the last nine meetings have finished all square.

Overall, the oddsmakers list Bayern to lift the cup at -320 odds, which doesn’t seem to represent excellent value. Leipzig at +210 odds is an exciting proposition, given this is closer to a friendly match than a cup final. Notably, both teams scored in the last five head-to-head matchups. Over three goals come in at -120 odds for this Supercup match.
