Head-to-Head

It’s no surprise the Leipzig vs Dortmund odds & scores favor RB Leipzig, given the recent head-to-head results in this fixture. In December, Leipzig won 3-2 at the Signal Iduna Park. Leipzig have also won each of the last three meetings at Red Bull Arena and five of the last six overall. At least three goals have been scored in eight of the last nine matchups.

RB Leipzig on Eight Game Unbeaten Run

RB Leipzig are on a roll at the moment. They’re unbeaten in their last eight matches, in all competitions, which includes a 1-1 draw at Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. Over the weekend, Leipzig had a tricky match away from home at Heidenheim. Benjamin Sesko scored the first goal of the match, when he put Leipzig ahead in the 42nd minute.

Heidenheim fought back to get a goal in the second half but Mohamed Simakan found Lois Openda on a counter attack to hand Leipzig the 2-1 win. It was Leipzig’s third win in a row in the Bundesliga and the fifth time in six matches they’ve scored at least two goals. Sitting in fourth place in the Bundesliga table, Leipzig close out the with three games vs. top half teams in their last four matches. Openda has had an excellent start to his career in German football. The Belgian international has registered 23 Bundesliga goals to go along with six assists.

Openda ranks second in goals in the Bundesliga stats, behind Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane. Goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi has also conceded just six goals in 10 matches since returning from a long term injury. The defensive improvement has allowed Leipzig to put together the longest unbeaten run of any team not named Bayer Leverkusen. Just Christopher Lenz and Yussuf Poulsen are currently on the injury list for Marco Rose’s side.

Borussia Dortmund Concede Late to Champions Leverkusen

Borussia Dortmund, like other teams before them, were minutes away from defeating champions Bayer Leverkusen. However, Dortmund couldn’t manage to become the team to end their record-breaking unbeaten run. After Niclas Fullkrug’s sweetly struck volley in the 81st minute, Leverkusen pushed for an equalizer. Finally, Josip Stanisic headed in a corner in the final minute of stoppage time to equalize at one goal apiece.

The draw didn’t do Dortmund much favors in the top-four hunt. However, they are just two points behind RB Leipzig, and Dortmund has an easier schedule to close out the campaign. The latest Bundesliga betting lines price Edin Terzic’s team at +200 odds to usurp Leipzig and secure at least fourth place. While Dortmund did lose a Bundesliga match to Stuttgart and the Champions League Quarter-Final first leg at Atletico Madrid to open up April, they’ve improved as the month has gone on.

Last Tuesday, Dortmund overturned the first leg deficit and defeated Atletico 4-2 at the Signal Iduna Park. Now, they’re in their first UCL Semifinal since 2013. Julian Brandt was a game changer in that match and he played a crucial role in Fullkrug’s goal as well. Still, Donyell Malen, Sebastien Haller and Ramy Bensebaini are currently injured. Meanwhile, starters Ian Maatsen and Emre Can are out suspended on Saturday.
