FC Heidenheim Stats History
FC Heidenheim, often referred to as Heidenheim, are based in Heidenheim an der Brenz, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The football section of the club dates back to 1890 and it has been a long road to the top flight for Heidenheim.
For the vast majority of their history, Heidenheim have played on low levels of the German soccer pyramid. Then, they slowly but steadily managed to ascend the pyramid. A catalyst for more rapid success was the appointment of manager Frank Schmidt in 2007. In 2009, Schmidt helped them achieve their first promotion to the 3.
Heidenheim Team Stats: They spent five seasons in the third tier and finally won the 3. Liga in 2013-14, so Heidenheim participated in the 2. Bundesliga for the first time ever in 2013-14. They comfortably stayed in the league in their first second-tier season, by finishing in eighth place. In 2019-20, they managed their best finish to date in the FC Heidenheim Team Stats. Heidenheim finally sealed their first-ever Bundesliga promotion in 2022-23 in dramatic fashion. Trailing Jahn Regensburg 2-1 heading into the latter stages of the final matchday, Heidenheim managed two stoppage time goals.
Tim Kleindienst scored the winner to give Heidenheim their first-ever 2. Bundesliga title. If they had drawn or lost the match, they would have had to play Stuttgart in the promotion playoff.
Kleindienst easily finished first in the Heidenheim team stats in 2022-23, with 25 goals. He also led the 2. Bundesliga and scored over a third of Heidenheim’s goals. Remarkably, Schmidt is still the head coach of Heidenheim and has brought them from the fifth tier to the Bundesliga in just over 15 years.
Heidenheim are a true Cinderella story and that could make them a popular rooting interest in 2023-24. However, betting advice usually recommends tempering expectations. Heidenheim don’t have the financial resources of some of the Bundesliga’s biggest clubs and haven’t overhauled their playing personnel as they enter the Bundesliga.
The preseason Bundesliga odds price Heidenheim as +200000 longshots to win the Bundesliga title.
