Dortmund vs PSV Odds: UCL Round of 16, Second Leg

Decisive Round of 16 Match

Expect an Electric Signal Iduna Park

Borussia Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park has one of the best atmospheres in all of European football. On Wednesday, expect the stadium to be rocking as Borussia Dortmund take on PSV in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16.

With the score level at one through one match, Dortmund will be looking to advance in front of their home fans. PSV haven’t advanced to the quarters since the 2006-07 season and this is a rare opportunity for the Dutch side. Ahead of this decisive round of 16 match, we’ll analyze the Dortmund vs PSV odds.

The pregame Dortmund vs PSV odds listed a draw at +270. These sides haven’t played any other UCL fixtures against each other since the 2002 group stage. There, Dortmund picked up a 3-1 win in Eindhoven and a 1-1 draw at the Signal Iduna Park.

Malen Setting Scoring Pace for Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund picked up an important 2-1 win over Werder Bremen on Saturday which kept them in fourth place in the Bundesliga. Donyell Malen scored an acrobatic opener and Jadon Sancho scored his first goal since rejoining Dortmund on loan.

BVB conceded in the second half but did enough to get over the line. Heading into Wednesday’s Champions League match, Dortmund have won back-to-back matches.

So far in 2024, Dortmund are 6-3-1, in all competitions, but most of their big Bundesliga games are yet to come. To close out the season, Dortmund still have to face Bayern Munich, Stuttgart, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig.

Still, Dortmund have proven they can get results vs top teams. Edin Terzic’ side was in the Champions League group of death but their UCL scores were impressive. They managed to finish in first place, with a 3-2-1 record.

In fact, Dortmund haven’t lost any of their last six Champions League matches and did decently enough to grab a draw in Eindhoven in the round of 16 first leg.

Malen has scored in each of his last four appearances for Dortmund and he’s absolutely a player to watch here. Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck is suspended for this one, due to yellow card accumulation. So, expect Mats Hummels to slot back into the starting XI.

Although Dortmund are unbeaten during this time, they’ve conceded in each of their last three Champions League games.

PSV Remain Unbeaten in Eredivisie

PSV Eindhoven won for the 22nd time in 25 matches in the Eredivisie this season when they took down Go Ahead Eagles 1-0 last Friday. Sergiño Dest scored the game’s only goal as the fullback cut onto his right foot and sent an effort into the far corner.

PSV look well on their way to winning their first Eredivisie title since the 2017-18 season. They have outscored their opponents by an average of 2.7 goals per game and are just nine games away from finishing the season unbeaten.

In the 2023-24 season, PSV have only lost to Arsenal in the UCL group stage and to Feyenoord in the KNVB Cup. They’re going a bit under the radar still but they have the potential to go on a deep run in the UCL.

Still, the Champions League betting odds list the Dutch side as +10000 longshots to win the title. Luuk de Jong hasn’t scored in each of his last two matches but the striker has been excellent this season.

A few weeks ago he scored a hat trick in a 7-1 win over PEC Zwolle and he’s scored 31 goals in 38 appearances in 2023-24. De Jong and Joey Veerman lead the Eredivisie with 11 assists but Veerman missed Friday’s match vs Go Ahead Eagles with a muscle injury.

He’s questionable for this one, while Ismael Saibari is also questionable. Meanwhile, winger Noa Lang is out for the season.

Borussia vs PSV Match Analysis & Odds

As of the time of writing, Borussia Dortmund are home favorites for Wednesday’s match vs PSV. Dortmund come in as +105 favorites here, which means they have less than a 50 percent implied chance to win in normal time. They are, however, -160 favorites to advance.

With the score level at one heading into the second leg, PSV are +130 underdogs to qualify for the Quarter-Final.

PSV are looking for their first win over Borussia Dortmund in four tries and show +225 odds to pull it off in normal time. A draw (+280) would send the match into extra time and neither team has played an extra time match this season. It would be a big boost for PSV if Veerman can recover in time to play on Wednesday.

He’s become one of the most wanted playmakers in Europe this season and De Jong would benefit from having his service. Under three goals display -115 Dortmund vs PSV odds and this is expected to be a tight match.

Some of Dortmunds more dynamic players, like Malen, Sancho and Karim Adeyemi could be key here in breaking down PSV’s defense. Notably, Dortmund are unbeaten in their last eight UCL matches at the Signal Iduna Park.
