Christian Pulisic Transfer: Way to AC Milan

USMNT Star Set to Depart Chelsea

Pulisic on Way to AC Milan

Christian Pulisic is already one of the most accomplished American soccer players of all-time. He won the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League as a member of Chelsea but his time in London has not always been smooth sailing. Pulisic’s Chelsea career has been hampered by injuries, inconsistent play and frequent coaching changes. It’s no secret that Pulisic has desired a fresh start elsewhere for some time now. He’s set to get his wish as AC Milan are close to wrapping up their Christian Pulisic transfer.

Transfer Details

The Chelsea exodus is poised to continue as Pulisic pushes for a move to AC Milan. There has been interest from other clubs in Europe but the American international has his heart set on Milan. AC Milan agreed personal terms with Pulisic a couple of weeks back and Chelsea and Milan have been in negotiations since.

Milan wrapped up a transfer for Pulisic’s Chelsea teammate Ruben Loftus-Cheek last week and Pulisic is set to follow. It has been reported that Chelsea will accept €22m in this Christian Pulisic transfer. Pulisic will be the fourth player to join the Rossoneri from Chelsea over the last few seasons. Along with Loftus-Cheek, Fikayo Tomori and Olivier Giroud have also made the switch. Pulisic will be the eighth Chelsea player to depart the club this Summer as they continue their rebuild.

Chelsea’s English Premier League scores last season were abysmal as they finished in 12th place in the league. Meanwhile, AC Milan snuck into fourth place in Serie A and will participate in the Champions League in the 2023-24 season.

Pulisic became the most expensive American player of all-time when Chelsea paid €65 million to Borussia Dortmund in 2019. The winger and attacking midfielder will go for nearly a third of that only four years later. Still, he could be a key player for Stefano Pioli at AC Milan.

Christian Pulisic Stats

Christian Pulisic’s Chelsea stats aren’t exactly eye-popping. In total, Pulisic made 145 appearances for the Blues and scored 26 goals. His most productive season for Chelsea was his first one, when he scored nine goals and added four assists in the Premier League. In that 2019-20 season, only Tammy Abraham scored more EPL goals than Pulisic on Chelsea.

Pulisic managed to start just eight English Premier League fixtures in the 2022-23 season. In 30 appearances, in all competitions, he managed just one goal and two assists.

He also missed two months of the 2022-23 season with knee problems. Only 24 years old, Pulisic has an extensive injury history. He never made more than 27 Premier League appearances in a single season for Chelsea due to various ailments.

Pulisic has been most successful when playing for the USA men’s national team. He helped them qualify for the 2022 World Cup and scored an important goal vs. Iran that sent the USMNT to the round of 16.

Of the USA’s top 10 all-time scorers, Pulisic has the best goals to games ratio. He’s scored 25 goals in 60 appearances, including twice in the recent 3-0 CONCACAF Nations League semifinal win vs. Mexico. It remains to be seen whether the Christian Pulisic transfer to AC Milan can revive his club career.
