Time for Scheffler to Shine at WM Phoenix Open

WM Phoenix Open Odds

We have been waiting for the WM Phoenix Open as it’s one of the best money-making PGA Tour tournaments of the year.

WM Phoenix Open odds have two-time champion Scottie Scheffler at +500. He looks to win his first PGA victory since April, so he’s overdue.

The party atmosphere awaits the big crowd in Phoenix.

It’s Scheffler Time

For whatever reason, Scheffler enjoys winning in February, so now is the best time to follow the American.

It’s strange for a golfer of his ability to not have won in nine of the 12 calendar months, but there’s something about February that he likes.

He’s a two-time winner of the Phoenix Open, and his Phoenix Open payout could add to his already impressive earnings.

We’re not surprised by the odds. He’s the only player at single-figure odds, and although his recent form hasn’t been up to his usual level, he loves TPC Scottsdale.

He’s looking to become the first player to win three tournaments in succession since Steve Stricker won the John Deere Classic in 2009-2011.

Golf statistics show it’s all about his putting. He ranked second when winning in 2022 and 13th in 2023, compared to an overall ranking of 161st on the PGA Tour.

The +500 line with WM Phoenix Open odds are short, but he’s one of the best players in the world, so he’s the headline act.

Confidence Returning for Thomas

Justin Thomas didn’t win in 2023, which affected his world golf rankings. However, he’s still a quality player.

The American finished T6 at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which was cut to 54 holes. It was a good performance for the 30-year-old, who needed a confidence boost.

That followed a T3 finish at The American Express, so it’s clear Thomas is nearing his 16th PGA Tour win.

His most recent win came at the 2022 PGA Championship, his second major, and he often plays well in February. He owns one win in February (2018 Honda Classic, and three wins in January.

His form early in the year bodes well, and he’s on the second line of WM Phoenix Open odds at +1000.

Fowler at Value Odds

We didn’t expect the see 2019 champion Rickie Fowler at +4800.

That’s an excellent price for a former champion, and although his focus has been on retaliating Rory McIlroy’s LIV stance, he should play well this week.

Fowler didn’t impress at Pebble Beach when finishing T47 after shooting +1 in the third round. It was a poor showing, but the flashy American prefers to play courses like TPC Scottsdale.

He also likes to play in front of loud crowds, so he seems tailor made for LIV golf. However, he has been a staunch critic of the breakaway tour, and a win in Phoenix could make a statement.

We can’t turn down the value odds for Fowler, who needs a confidence boost, but winning this week isn’t beyond him.

First Tour Win for Young

It’s hard to believe Cameron Young hasn’t won the PGA Tour, given his excellent level of talent.

The former PGA Tour Rookie of the Year won that title without winning an event, which always comes under criticism.

We think he’s good enough to win in 2024, and it could start at the WM Phoenix Open on Thursday.

Young went to the Dubai Desert Classic where he finished third behind Rory McIlroy, again proving his ability on the big stage.

However, we expected more from him last week at Pebble Beach. He shot -1, which was a far cry from winner Wyndham Clark’s -17 score.

Young needs to settle down and focus, and if he does, the +3500 odds could make bookmakers look silly.
