Ligue 1: Monaco vs Marseille Odds, Preview

European Contenders Face Off

Both Teams Looking to Bounce Back

Before Friday, Monaco were the Ligue 1 leaders. However, they lost 1-0 at home to OGC Nice. Meanwhile, Marseille also lost for the first time this season as they fell 4-0 to Paris Saint-Germain. With both teams looking to bounce back, they’ll face off on Saturday in Monaco.

Recent matches between these sides have been highly competitive and could bring more of the same this weekend. Ahead of the match, we’ll take a look at the Monaco vs Marseille odds.

MON Monaco vs. Marseille Game OM

Location: Stade Louis II, Monaco
Date & Time: Saturday, September 30th, 3:00 p.m. ET

Head-to-Head:

The last five meetings between Monaco and Marseille have been precisely even. Both teams have won twice, and they’ve played to a draw. Last season, Marseille grabbed a 3-2 win at Monaco, and they drew 1-1 at Marseille. Marseille also finished above Monaco in the Ligue 1 standings in the last two seasons.

Missed Penalties Sink Monaco

Monaco took on Nice on Ligue 1 Matchday 6 in the Derby de la Cote d’Azur. The Monegasques entered the match on top of the table, with a 3-2-0 record, and the soccer lines priced them as +105 favorites. They got an early chance to score by winning a penalty. New striker Folarin Balogun, in his first start for Monaco, failed to convert as Marcin Bulka saved Balogun’s low shot in the 12th minute. Balogun was one of the Ligue 1 top scorers in the 2022-23 season, which he spent on loan at Reims.

However, the former Arsenal man had a nightmare full debut for Monaco. In the second half, Balogun lined up to take another penalty, and once again, Bulka saved his tame effort. He became the first player to fail to convert two penalties in the same Ligue 1 game since 2007. Wissam Ben Yedder replaced Balogun in the 67th minute but he wasn’t able to get Monaco on the scoresheet either. On a brilliant solo run, Nice’s Jeremie Boga scored a stoppage-time winner to sink Monaco 1-0.

Monaco will look to bounce back on Saturday but will be missing Aleksandr Golovin due to a suspension. Golovin has managed three goal contributions in six matches this season. Eliesse Ben Seghir and Breel Embolo remain out, while center back Mohammed Salisu is doubtful.

Marseille Thrashed in Le Classique

Le Classique, between PSG and Marseille, is the biggest match in French soccer. In the latest edition, which was last Sunday, Marseille fell behind within the first ten minutes of the match. PSG’s Achraf Hakimi beat OM goalkeeper Pau Lopez on a free kick. Vitinha missed a big chance to equalize for Marseille and Randal Kolo Muani went on to double PSG’s lead.

Even though PSG star Kylian Mbappe went out with an injury, his replacement Goncalo Ramos scored a double in the second half. It’s been a tumultuous week for Marseille as coach Marcelino stepped down before the 3-3 draw to Ajax in the Europa League. Jacques Abardonado has taken over as interim coach and president Pablo Longoria is currently under fire.

He has been accused by supporters of lining his pockets with the club’s money but Longoria has welcomed an internal investigation. With the off the field issues, the Monaco vs Marseille odds price OM as +190 underdogs. Marseille are now winless in their last four matches, in all competitions.

Match Analysis & Odds

Heading into Saturday’s match, Monaco are +120 favorites to bounce back from their disappointing derby loss vs. Nice. Balogun’s performance last weekend could have an effect on his confidence and Ben Yedder could return to the starting lineup. Both Monaco and Marseille were unbeaten before Matchday 6 but looked vulnerable in their losses.

Neither team scored last weekend but the Monaco vs Marseille odds list over three goals at -120 odds for the match. Monaco still lead the league in goals, with 15 through six matches. Meanwhile, OM have struggled a bit offensively with just seven goals in six games. Marseille +0.5 displays -150 odds as they’ve won their last two matches at Monaco. They’re +190 moneyline underdogs, as Monaco show both +120 ATS and moneyline odds.

Three of the last 11 meetings between these two sides have finished in draws and another comes in at +275 odds. Geoffrey Kondogbia and Ismaila Sarr are injured for OM and Sarr has already scored two goals this season. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice vs. Ajax but only has one Ligue 1 goal so far.
