Ligue 1: Toulouse vs PSG Odds

Coupe de France Winners vs. Ligue 1 Champions

Mbappe Back in PSG Fold

Toulouse won their first-ever major trophy in April when they defeated Nantes 5-1 in the Coupe de France final. Toulouse also beat Nantes in their 2023-24 Ligue 1 opener and now host 2023 Ligue 1 champions PSG. After training separately for the last few weeks, Kylian Mbappe is back in the PSG fold. We’ll discuss what his presence means for the Parisians and check out the Toulouse vs. PSG odds.

Toulouse vs. Paris Saint-Germain

Date, time:

Head-to-Head

PSG and Toulouse played twice on their Ligue 1 schedules last season, and PSG came away with two wins. On the road, PSG cruised to a 3-0 win, and they pulled off a 2-1 comeback victory at the Parc des Princes. Overall, Paris Saint-Germain have won the last seven fixtures and outscored Toulouse 18-3.

Toulouse Showing Ambition

Toulouse are one of six French teams participating in European competitions next season despite finishing in 13th in the Ligue 1 standings. They made an excellent run in the Coupe de France last season, culminating in a 5-1 blowout win over Nantes. So, they’ll take part in the 2023-24 Europa League. Even though they’re in UEFA competition for the first time since 2007, ownership were unhappy with finishing in 13th and fired coach Philippe Montanier.

Toulouse managed a 2-1 win at Nantes in their first competitive match under Carles Martinez Novell. TFC fell behind early as new signing Cristian Casseres made a rash challenge that led to a Nantes penalty. However, Toulouse equalized in the second half through Zakaria Aboukhlal. Defender Rasmus Nicolaisen scored the winner in stoppage time as he turned in a rebound.

It’s a good start for Toulouse, whose ownership group shows ambition despite not spending much on transfers. Their goalie, 18-year-old Guillaume Restes, made his Ligue 1 debut on Sunday and was promoted from the youth team. One of their best players from last season, Branco van den Boomen, left for Ajax over the Summer, though. Aboukhlal, Thijs Dallinga and Fares Chaibi should all be essential for TFC this season.

PSG Sign Ousmane Dembele

PSG added to their long list of Summer transfers by bringing in former Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele. Dembele, a World-Cup winner with France, is still one of the better wingers in the world despite numerous injury problems. Shortly after PSG announced Dembele’s transfer, they also managed to strike an agreement with the exiled Kylian Mbappe to rejoin training. Mbappe and Dembele should both be available to play come Saturday.

They’ll certainly need all of the attacking firepower they can get. In their Ligue 1 opener, PSG couldn’t find the net and settled for a scoreless draw with Lorient. The Parisians have now won just two of their last seven Ligue 1 home matches. Heading on the road, the Toulouse vs. PSG odds price Paris Saint-Germain as favorites.

Last season, Kylian Mbappe led the Ligue 1 stats with 29 goals and 34 total goal contributions. Dembele made 25 La Liga appearances for Barcelona last season, scoring five goals and providing seven assists for the Catalan club. With Lionel Messi gone and Neymar potentially on his way out, the Parisians also signed Goncalo Ramos from Benfica to lead the line.

Along with Ramos, a handful of PSG players made their competitive debuts vs. Lorient last weekend. Milan Skriniar, Manuel Ugarte, Marco Asensio, Lee Kang-in all made the starting XI under new coach Luis Enrique.

Match Analysis & Odds

Despite not finding the net vs. Lorient, PSG had many chances and made over 1000 passes, which is the most in a Ligue 1 match for at least 17 years. It remains to be seen whether Luis Enrique’s possession-based style will get better results as the season progresses. For Saturday, the Toulouse vs PSG odds list PSG as -147 ATS at -0.5 and -149 moneyline favorites, though.

Toulouse have won just one of their last 24 matches vs. Paris Saint-Germain, with their last win coming in 2016. Still, TFC are just 0.5-goal underdogs and Toulouse +0.5 comes in at +117 odds here. If Guillaume Restes starts again in goal for Toulouse, the youngster figures to be tested much more than he was vs. Nantes.

PSG have scored nine goals in their last three games vs., Toulouse and over three goals is a flat -115 to both sides for this match. Toulouse are also +333 underdogs in their home opener and went just 6-6-7 at home last season, in Ligue 1. Consecutive draws would undoubtedly be a poor start to PSG’s title defense and a draw is priced at +330 odds for the match.
