Ligue 1 Action Returns

Favorable Fixture for PSG

Following the October international break, PSG will host Ligue 1 foes Strasbourg on Saturday. After a decent start the season, Strasbourg will be looking to avoid a third defeat here. Meanwhile, PSG could go on top of the Ligue 1 table for the first time this season if they win and other results go their way. We’ll check out the odds and team news for this match in our PSG vs Strasbourg preview.

PSG Paris Saint-Germain vs. Strasbourg STR

Location: Parc des Princes, Paris, France
Date & Time: Saturday, October 21st, 11:00 a.m. ET

Head-to-Head:

PSG vs Strasbourg previews frequently mention that both teams have scored in the last five meetings. With May’s 1-1 draw at Strasbourg, PSG clinched the 2022-23 Ligue 1 title. PSG won the reverse fixture, 2-1 even as Neymar was sent off. Strasbourg are winless in the last 10 Ligue 1 head-to-head matchups with an 0-4-6 record during that time.

Key PSG Players Suspended

Last time out, Paris Saint-Germain took on Rennes and came away with a 3-1 win. PSG had lost both matches last season to Rennes but cruised to victory and Kylian Mbappe should have made it four. Mbappe rounded Rennes keeper Steve Mandanda but blazed his effort on the empty net over the bar. Vitinha scored a long range strike in the match, Achraf Hakimi headed in a Warren Zaire-Emery pass and Randal Kolo Muani scored just after entering the match as a substitute.

After the win, PSG are in third place in the Ligue 1 table. They’ve got a relatively favorable stretch of schedule coming up and are just two points behind leaders Monaco. However, all three of Hakimi, Kolo Muani and Ousmane Dembele are suspended for this match. After a 4-0 win over Marseille in late September the players allegedly joined in on homophobic chants directed toward OM.

All three players would have been in contention to start this match but Goncalo Ramos figures to start at striker now. Bradley Barcola or Lee Kang-in could replace Dembele on the right wing. Nordi Mukiele could make his first start of the season at right back as well.

Mbappe figures to be the main offensive outlet for PSG here and he leads the Ligue 1 stats, with seven goals. Note that Nuno Mendes and Marco Asensio are also out injured for the Parisians here. Even though a few of their most talented players are out, PSG are expected to get the job done at home.

Strasbourg Struggling to Score

Strasbourg dropped back-to-back matches at home before the international break as they fell 1-0 to Lens and 2-1 to Nantes. Patrick Vieira’s tenure as manager has gotten off to an uneven start as Strasbourg are 3-1-4 in the league and in 11th place. They haven’t really been a great pick for soccer betting since the 2021-22 soccer season, when they finished just three points away from a European place.

Forward Emanuel Emegha is dealing with a muscle injury which figures to keep him out of action for Saturday’s match. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde was a bright spot for the Alsatians as he scored two goals and provided two assists in three games. Then, Wolverhampton Wanderers signed him before the transfer deadline. No current Strasbourg player has managed more than two goal contributions this season.

Four Strasbourg players have started every match: goalkeeper Matz Sels, defender Gerzino Nyamsi, wingback Thomas Delaine and midfielder Ismael Doukoure. Strasbourg have struggled to score as of late, with just four goals in their last five Ligue 1 games.

Match Analysis & Odds

Even without Hakimi, Dembele and Kolo Muani, PSG are two-goal favorites. PSG -2 currently shows even odds, while Strasbourg +2 comes in at -130. Each of the last three meetings have either finished in a draw or been decided by one goal. PSG vs Strasbourg previews also note that PSG are -435 favorites for this one.

Strasbourg don’t have a road victory over PSG in the 21st century and are consequently priced as +1150 underdogs. Bettors can take a draw at +565 odds for this one as PSG have drawn three of their eight matches this season. With Dembele and Kolo Muani out, expect players like Goncalo Ramos, Lee Kang-in and Bradley Barcola to want to seize their opportunity.

PSG’s frontline is crowded and players will have to make the most of their minutes to remain in the squad. Bettors can take over three goals at -150 odds as the Parisians have scored at least twice in five of their last six Ligue 1 games.
