Ligue 1: Nice vs Brest Odds, Preview

Top Two Ligue 1 Teams Meet

Surprises of the Season Face Off

OGC Nice finished in ninth place last season, which was disappointing for a side that usually contends for European competition. Meanwhile, Stade Brestois came in 14th place, with an 11-11-16 record. Approximately no one expected either Nice or Brest to contend for the Ligue 1 title this season. However, Brest and Nice are the top two teams in the league through six matches. In a match where the winner will be on top of the league heading into Matchday 8, we’ll preview the Nice vs Brest odds.

NIC Nice vs Brest BRE

Date & Time:
Location: Allianz Riviera, Nice, France

Head-to-Head:

Nice and Brest met twice on last season’s Ligue 1 schedule. In each match, the home side won 1-0. Gaetan Laborde scored the winner for Nice last November and Jeremy Le Douaron scored the game’s only goal for Brest in April. Nice head into this match with four wins in the last five meetings. Brest has never won at Nice in a Ligue 1 match.

Nice Knocking off Giants

In consecutive weeks, Nice has managed to knock off two of Ligue 1’s best teams. Back on Matchday 5, Terem Moffi scored twice and provided an assist in a galvanizing 3-2 win at PSG. Last Friday, Nice went on the road to league leaders Monaco in the Derby de la Cote d’Azur. Marcin Bulka came up huge as the Polish goalkeeper saved two penalties from Monaco’s Folarin Balogun.

Nice substitute Jeremie Boga ended up being the difference maker in the match. Scoreless through 90 minutes, Boga picked up the ball near the halfway line, glided past a few Monaco defenders, and scored past Philipp Kohn for his first goal with the club. Nice are now 3-3-0 on the season and have conceded the league’s fewest goals. Nice have kept three clean sheets in six matches and allowed just four goals. They’ve been a great pick for betting on soccer lately, with three straight wins both ATS and SU.

Moffi and Gaetan Laborde have been Nice’s most productive players on the offensive end. Moffi has scored three goals and added two assists. Meanwhile, Laborde has scored twice and provided an assist so far. Nice is led by 34-year-old coach Francesco Farioli and 39-year-old defender and captain Dante. Dante is less than a month away from turning 40 but he’s been incredibly solid this season and has played every minute so far.

Brest Off to Dream Start

Brest is shockingly on top of the Ligue 1 standings after six matches, with a 4-1-1 record. They’ve picked up two wins in a row and an 87th-minute Steve Mounie header was the difference last weekend vs. Lyon. The weekend before, Brest managed to pick up a 2-1 victory vs. a solid Reims side on the road. While nearly no one expected Brest to be on top of the table at this stage of the season, their form has been gradually improving.

The catalyst was hiring Eric Roy back in January, as he helped them comfortably avoid relegation after an awful start to the season. If they manage to win here, Brest will stay on top of the table but the Nice vs Brest odds price the visitors at +380 odds. Brest is currently 2-1 away from home in Ligue 1 with a 2-0 loss at Marseille a few weeks back.

So far, Romain del Castilo leads Brest with three goals and two assists. No other Brest player has managed more than one goal so far. While teams like Monaco and PSG have scored 15 and 14 goals, respectively, Brest has found the net just eight teams so far this season. That could end up catching up with them sometime soon.

Match Analysis & Odds

It’s hard to know what to expect with the excellent form that both teams are in. Both have often defied expectations this season but it’s Nice who are -135 favorites heading into this one. They have won just one of their three home matches this season, though, as they drew the other two. The Nice vs Brest odds list the visitors as +380 underdogs but that’s a position they’re used to being in.

Nice -0.5, -1 displays -115 odds and Brest +0.5, +1 also sits at the same odds. Brest has had a tough time on recent trips to Nice, though. They’ve lost each of their last three road matches on the French Riviera and last managed a drawback in 2020.

A draw comes in at +290 odds and it’d preserve Nice’s unbeaten start to the season but they’ll want to grab all three points here. Neither team’s matches have been high-scoring thus far, which makes it no surprise that under 2.5 goals are priced at -115 odds.
