Bundesliga Match of the Week

RB Leipzig are going after their first-ever Bundesliga title in the 2023-24 season. They kicked off the season with a DFL-Supercup victory, and the two-time defending DFB-Pokal champions have won four of their first five Bundesliga matches. On Saturday, Leipzig will host 11-time defending Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich in a massive match. Bayern are one point ahead of Leipzig in the table but fell 3-0 to Leipzig in August’s Supercup. We’ll look at the RB Leipzig vs Bayern Munich odds as these title contenders face off.

Day/Time:
Location: Red Bull Arena, Leipzig, Germany

Head-to-Head

Bayern Munich are unbeaten in their last six matches at Red Bull Arena vs RB Leipzig. Last season’s Bundesliga scores in this fixture were 3-1 to RB Leipzig in Munich and a 1-1 draw at Red Bull Arena. All four of RB Leipzig’s goalscorers vs Bayern Munich last season are no longer at the club.

Still, RB Leipzig managed to defeat Bayern Munich 3-0 in August’s DFL-Supercup. Leipzig’s Dani Olmo scored a hat trick at the Allianz Arena as they won their first-ever Supercup.

Leipzig Extend Winning Streak

RB Leipzig are on a six-game winning streak, in all competitions heading into Saturday’s match. They’ve been an excellent pick for betting on soccer recently. On Wednesday, Benjamin Sesko scored a double as Leipzig defeated Wehen Wiesbaden 3-2 in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.

Leipzig’s last three matches have all been in different competitions, and they’ve passed all of their tests. Last Saturday, Leipzig grabbed a hard-fought win as they beat Borussia Monchengladbach 1-0 on the road. Xavi Simons grabbed his Bundesliga-leading fourth assist as he set up Timo Werner for the game winner. Leipzig also grabbed a 3-1 win at BSC Young Boys in their Champions League opener last Tuesday.

With their six-game winning streak on the line, the RB Leipzig vs Bayern Munich odds price the hosts as +240 underdogs. For Saturday’s match, Werner, Dani Olmo, Willi Orban, El Chadaille Bitshiabu and Amadou Haidara are injured. Lois Openda, who has scored three goals this season, should start up top. Simons has also been excellent since joining on loan from PSG, with three goals and four assists.

Shorthanded Bayern Still Excelling

Bayern Munich dismantled VfL Bochum to the tune of a 7-0 victory on Saturday. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting opened the scoring within four minutes, and Harry Kane doubled the Bavarians’ lead less than ten minutes later. Kane scored his first-ever Bayern Munich hat trick in the match, and super sub Mathys Tel got on the scoresheet once again.

With the win, Bayern climbed to their usual position of first in the Bundesliga table. They’re level on points with upstart Bayer Leverkusen but Bayern are ahead on goal difference. Even though the on-field product has been excellent over the last few weeks, injuries are hampering Bayern. Thomas Tuchel had to start an unorthodox center back pairing of Leon Goretzka and Noussair Mazraoui in the DFB-Pokal first-round match at Preussen Munster on Tuesday.

Bayern still came away with a 4-0 win as Konrad Laimer and Franz Kratzig scored their first goals for the club. Tel also got on the scoresheet, which means he’s been among the goals in each of Bayern’s last three games, in all competitions. However, Tuchel will have another selection headache come Saturday as center backs Kim Min-jae, Dayot Upamecano and Matthijs de Ligt could all miss out. Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller are also expected to miss the match.
