Angels vs White Sox Odds: Red-Hot Kopech Taking the Mound, Chicago Favored in Series Opener

Cancer Survivor Liam Hendriks Could Make 2023 Season Debut for White Sox

Both the Angels and White Sox Take Losing Streaks in Monday’s Series Opener

When the MLB schedule came out, few could have imagined a series starting in late May would see the Los Angeles Angels sitting fourth in the American League West Division and the Chicago White Sox fourth in the American League Central Division.

When looking at the Angels vs White Sox odds, host Chicago is favored in the series opener on Monday.

The Angels head into opener on a three-game losing streak, dropping all three games at home to Miami after sweeping a three-game series from the Boston Red Sox. On Sunday, the Angels were 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position in a 2-0 loss to Miami.

The Chicago White Sox dropped the last two games of the series with the Detroit Tigers to fall six games out of first place in the AL Central. In Sunday’s series finale, the White Sox allowed the tying run in the bottom of the ninth inning and the winning run in the 10th.

It is not all bad news as White Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendriks is expected to be activated off the injured list after dealing with leukemia and he could make his season debut in this series.

The Angels projected starter Griffin Canning and Michael Kopech of the White Sox have been throwing well in recent outings.

Canning allowed two hits and no runs in seven innings in his last game. He hasn’t faced the White Sox since his rookie season in 2019 when he gave up five hits and one run in seven innings.

Kopech has allowed two hits and no runs with 19 strikeouts over 15 innings in his last two starts as his ERA dropped from 5.74 to 4.24.

He allowed five hits and four runs in 5.1 innings the last time he pitched against the Angels.

Shohei Ohtani of the Angels is the current front-runner at -130 in the odds to win the American League Most Valuable Player award with teammate Mike Trout (+1200) tied for third.

The Angels (+3500) are seventh among American League teams in the odds to win the World Series with the White Sox well back at +15000.

Trout Starting to Heat Up

Since having two hits in 14 at-bats during a four-game stretch, former AL Most Valuable Player Mike Trout is 11-for-33 with a double, four home runs and eight RBIs over the last nine games.

The Angels are just 6-7 when Trout has at least two hits in a game this season.

Trout only hit .192 with nine strikeouts in 26 at-bats against the White Sox a season ago.

Six of the last eight games played by the Angels finished under the total. When looking at the Angels vs White Sox odds, the total is currently at 8.5 runs.

No Middle Ground

The Chicago White Sox can’t seem to string wins together and a 9-9 record over the last 18 games is perfect proof of that.

In the nine wins, the White Sox are hitting .307 with runners in scoring position and averaging 5.8 runs per game. In the nine losses, they are 7-for-42 with runners in scoring position with 2.1 runs per game.

Four of the last five games for the White Sox finished over the total. The White Sox are favored in Monday’s game according to the Angels vs White Sox odds.
