Regulars Busch, Gibbs Lead 2024 BetMGM 300 Odds

The Xfinity Series Returns For a Tight Race in Charlotte

Last time out in Darlington, Justin Allgaier notched his first win of the year in dominant fashion. He led the most laps and won both stages but he’s not at the top of the 2024 BetMGM 300 odds.

Here’s how they stack up:

2024 BetMGM 300 Odds: Favorites

  • Kyle Busch (+300)

Busch is appearing for the first time on the Xfinity Series schedule this weekend in Charlotte. He had a rough time in the All-Star Race and had fought with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. post-race.

That aside, his track record at Charlotte Motor Speedway is good. He’s finished in the top six in all but one of his last seven races there, including a dominant win from pole in 2018.

A Cup Series driver is typically a threat to win when he drops to the Xfinity Series. That’s certainly the case with Busch this week.

  • Ty Gibbs (+325)

Gibbs returns to the Xfinity Series for the second time this year following his 24th-place finish in Austin. He won the All-Star Open last week for the second consecutive year.

Charlotte was a good hunting ground for Gibbs in the Xfinity Series historically. He won this race in 2021 and finished in the top five in 2022 and 2023. It’d be a surprise if he wasn’t near the front by the checkered flag.

  • Justin Allgaier (+525)

That dominant win in Darlington pushed Allgaier to fifth in the Xfinity Series standings and in a tie on points with Jesse Love. It was a nice uptick in form following disappointing results in Talladega and Dover.

He’s the favorite among the Xfinity Series regulars for good reason. He won this race last season to push his streak of top-12 results in this event to five years.

He’s won back-to-back races only once in his Xfinity career: 2020 in consecutive races in Richmond. Can he do it again this weekend? It looks tough in this field.

  • Chase Elliott (+750)

Elliott makes it three Cup Series regulars among the favorites in the Xfinity Series race this weekend. He’s been the most consistent driver in the Cup Series this season. He’s the only driver to finish in the top 20 of every race this year.

Elliott won one of the Cup Series races here in 2020 and finished second in the other. He’s struggled in the last two seasons and classified 34th and 33rd in 2023 and 2022, respectively.

His win in Texas as well as third place in Kansas inspire confidence here. He could easily get his first Xfinity Series win since 2016.

  • Cole Custer (+825)

Custer extended his run of top-10 finishes to nine races with third place in Darlington. He’s still chasing that elusive win, though. His team – Stewart-Haas Racing – has been in the NASCAR Xfinity Series news this week.

Owners Gene Haas and Tony Stewart are considering selling their charters.

Luckily, he’s done well at similar tracks to Charlotte Motor Speedway. He finished second from pole position in Las Vegas and fifth in Texas.

Last year, he took third place in this race. Look for him to be near the front again.

  • Chandler Smith (+1000)

Smith’s dropped off the top spot of the standings after finishing 12th in Darlington. He’s still been one of the best drivers on the grid this season and sits five points away from leader Austin Hill.

He raced well in Las Vegas earlier this season and both stages en route to third place. Texas was less impressive with 15th place by the checkered flag.

Sleeper options

  • Austin Hill (+1200)

The Xfinity Series leader is a sleeper? At these NASCAR odds, yes. He’s a great value, too. His second place in Darlington gives him a three-point lead in the standings. It’s his best finish since second place in Austin.

He raced well in Las Vegas (fourth) and Texas (sixth) and finished fourth in this race last year. At a better payout than the favorites, it’s not the worst idea to ride with the series leader.

  • A.J. Allmendinger (+4000)

Allmendinger’s done well at Charlotte Motor Speedway, albeit in a different format. He won the Cup Series race on the Roval layout last year during the playoffs. In the oval format, he’s been good but not great.

But his form at similar tracks this season is encouraging. Sixth in Las Vegas and fourth in Texas bodes well for this weekend. He’d be a fantastic payout compared to the favorites at these odds.

  • Sammy Smith (+6000)

This weekend marks Smith’s second career race at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s oval. Last year he finished 10th.

Like Allmendinger, he has encouraging results in Las Vegas and Texas by finishing eighth in both events. He could surprise and snap a run of bad form from the last three races.

2024 BetMGM 300 Odds: Predictions

Charlotte Motor Speedway’s event this weekend brings the Xfinity Series close to the halfway point of the regular season. It’s a tight battle at the top of the standings and Saturday should feature more close action.

Of the favorites, we like Gibbs (+325) to build on his win in the All-Star Open to earn his first Xfinity Series win of the year. Of the sleepers, look for Allmendinger (+4000) to get a surprise victory.

Our top five picks are:

  • Busch (-250)
  • Gibbs (-225)
  • Allgaier (-150)
  • Allmendinger (+400)
  • Smith (+650)
