Jacksonville State Gamecocks Future Odds

Webb Returns at Quarterback For Gamecocks

Jacksonville State is making the jump to FBS this season as one of four newcomers in Conference USA. Due to the NCAA transition rules on teams moving up, the Gamecocks won’t be able to compete for the conference title this season. So your options for betting on the Jacksonville State Gamecocks future odds are going to be somewhat limited this year.

Jacksonville State Goes Full Throttle

The Gamecocks finished 9-2 last season and captured the Atlantic Sun Conference title. Jacksonville State figures to have a bit tougher time playing against FBS foes consistently. But the team is going to continue to do what it does best. That’s playing up-tempo on offense and running the football. The Gamecocks averaged more than 400 yards per game last season and returned leading rusher Anwar Lewis.

Quarterback Zion Webb rushed for 13 touchdowns last season and threw for 10 and will be back for one final season. The NCAA approved his eligibility waiver in June, allowing him to play one more year. He knows the offense and runs it well. The receivers aren’t bad, and the team added former Arizona Wildcat Jamarye Joiner to the mix. The receivers are often asked to block and Joiner has good size.

The offensive line returns four starters from last season. They’re a bit undersized, but Jacksonville State’s scheme rewards quickness and movement, so they can get the job done.

The defensive line and secondary are in pretty good shape. The linebackers could use a little bit of help after losing a couple of good ones. Laletia Hale is the leading returner, but he’s on the small side. The Gamecocks could be outmuscled by bigger teams, but have decent depth to keep players fresh.

National Championship Odds: Jacksonville State Not Eligible

The Gamecocks are ineligible for the national title due to moving up in class, so there are no Jacksonville State Gamecocks future odds for this wager.

Conference Odds: Gamecocks Eager to Face Conference Foes

Jacksonville State will be ineligible for the conference title this season. But that doesn’t mean the Gamecocks are going to take Conference USA games lightly. Nor will their opponents take JSU lightly. Many remember the Gamecocks as traveling to Tallahassee and beating Florida State in 2021. Rich Rodriguez is also a pretty big name as far as head coaches go. Now that he’s returned to the top level in college football, expect the Gamecocks to get some solid players in recruiting.

Jacksonville State is playing some tough NCAA football games in its first FBS season. Trips to Coastal Carolina and South Carolina won’t be easy. Middle Tennessee and Liberty are both home games for the Gamecocks, but both teams should be better than Jacksonville State. It will be a successful season if the Gamecocks can win three or four conference games.

Regular Season Wins: Getting 5 Wins Not an Easy Task

The lone wager for 2023 Jacksonville State Gamecocks futures odds, the win total has been put at five for JSU. That’s not going to be easy, although how this year’s Jacksonville State team fares against FBS foes is unknown. Last year, the Gamecocks lost to Tulsa 54-17 and to SE Louisiana by a 31-14 score.

It’s probably asking a bit much to see NCAAF scores similar to last year for Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks allowed just 22.9 points per game, but are unlikely to repeat that. The talent level of the teams on this year’s schedule is a fair amount better than what JSU saw last season.

Opening week might be an indication of what to expect from the Gamecocks this season. Jacksonville State hosts UTEP, which is solid up front but lacks some skilled people. The NCAAF predictions have the Gamecocks favored by 1.5 in a game that looks like it could go either way. It will be a good test for the defense in going up against a bigger team.

Jacksonville State will be fun to watch, as usual. But asking the team to win five or more games is likely asking for a bit too much. The under is probably the way to go with the Gamecocks.
