Tulane Green Wave 2023 Future Odds

Tulane Looks to Prove 2022 Was No Fluke

The Tulane Green Wave will have a tough time matching what the team accomplished in 2022. To jump from two wins in 2021 to 12 wins in 2022, including a win over USC in the Cotton Bowl, is a huge feat. The Green Wave won’t catch anybody by surprise this year. But they may not have to. Tulane will be a very good football team once again and the 2023 Tulane Green Wave stats could be as impressive as 2022.

Green Wave Riding Momentum Into 2023

People expected Tulane to be a better team in 2022. Even after going 2-10 in 2021, Tulane had a win total of 6.0 posted for last season. The Green Wave easily went over that number with 10 regular season wins, plus victories in the AAC title game and the bowl game with Southern Cal.

Tulane lost some talented players from last year’s team. That can’t be denied. But the road to the American Athletic Conference title game is probably easier this year with the departures of Cincinnati, UCF, and Houston to the Big 12 Conference.

Quarterback Michael Pratt elected to stay at Tulane and that alone makes the Green Wave the team to beat in the AAC. Last year, Pratt threw for 3,010 yards and 27 touchdowns, while rushing for 478 yards and 10 more scores. Pratt will have the luxury of the best offensive line in the conference. Four starters are back and the lone newcomer, LSU transfer Cameron Wire, will be one of the best linemen on the team.

The line will help make up for the departure of running back Tyjae Spears, who is now with the Tennessee Titans. Shaadie Clayton-Johnson played well when he had the opportunity last year. Liberty transfer Shedro Louis rushed for 529 yards and eight touchdowns last season with the Flames. So the running back cupboard is hardly bare.

Tulane losses several receivers, but the Green Wave have some returning talent in Jha’Quan Jackson and Lawrence Keys III, along with Texas A&M transfer Yulkeith Brown and Louisiana transfer Dontae Fleming. The 2023 Tulane Green Wave stats in the passing game shouldn’t see much of a drop-off.

The defense also lost some talent but should be solid in the secondary. Patrick Jenkins and edge rusher Darius Hodges return up front and Jesus Machado and Corey Platt saw some playing time at linebacker.

Defensive coordinator Chris Hampton left for Oregon and his replacement Lance Guidry went to Miami. The Green Wave then tabbed Shiel Wood, from Troy, to lead the defense.

National Championship Odds: Green Wave Not Good Enough

Tulane can take a little bit of solace in the fact that its odds are a lot lower than a year ago. Last season, Tulane was +100000 to win the national title. This year, Tulane is down to +25000. Not that it will matter, as Tulane is simply overmatched by the big boys of college. But it is a sign Tulane is an improved football team.

Conference Odds: Green Wave Favored as AAC Champions

Tulane cashed at a hefty +5000 last season. That isn’t the case this season. But there’s still a little bit of value on the Green Wave at +200. Tulane doesn’t play second-choice SMU this season and has third-choice UTSA at home. Games at Memphis and Florida Atlantic aren’t walks in the park, but Tulane has enough talent to finish on top of the NCAAF standings in the AAC once again.

Regular Season Wins: Double-Digit Wins Won’t Be Easy

Those who bet on Tulane’s regular season win total should have a good idea early on how the Green Wave will face. The Green Wave doesn’t have the easiest of the NCAAF schedules in non-conference play. Tulane hosts South Alabama, and Ole Miss, and visits Southern Miss right out of the gate. None of those are easy games and the college football predictions have Ole Miss beating the Green Wave.

But if Tulane can go 2-1 in those three games, the Green Wave have a decent shot at getting 10 wins. They can only lose two regular season games for those who play Tulane over 9.5 regular season wins. Tulane may stumble once in conference play, but shouldn’t lose more than that.

The Green Wave’s fortunes rest squarely on the shoulders of Pratt this season. If the 2023 Tulane Green Wave stats are close to what they were in 2022, it will be another enjoyable football season in the Bayou.
