Louisiana State vs Mississippi Odds: LSU Is Road Favorite, Third Time in Four Meetings

A Couple of Key Pass Catchers Dealing With Injuries for Ole Miss

SEC Passing Leader Jayden Daniels Looks to Keep LSU Undefeated in SEC Play

The two highest-scoring teams in the SEC are getting ready for what could be an entertaining Saturday night showdown with the Louisiana State vs Mississippi Odds have the visiting Tigers are the slight favorite.

Ole Miss is one of four teams tied for the SEC lead with a 3-1 record against the college football odds. LSU has covered in its only game this season as a road favorite after going 0-3 against the spread when favored on the road a season ago. Ole Miss was 1-0 against the spread as the home underdog in the 2022 season.

The college football betting lines list LSU as the 2.5-point favorite.
LSU is sitting at 2-0 in the SEC West Division with Alabama and Texas A&M both 1-0. A loss would drop Ole Miss to 0-2 in division play and pretty much end any hopes of reaching the SEC title game.

The teams have traded double-digit point victories over the last two years with just one of the last eight meetings being decided by one score.

A quick look at the latest NCAA football rankings shows that LSU is 12th in the American Football Coaches Association poll and 13th in the Associated Press poll. Ole Miss is 20th in both polls after dropping five spots in the AP ranking and four positions in the coaches’ poll after last week’s loss to Alabama.

LSU (+4000) is tied for 11th in the odds to win the national title with Ole Miss well back at +20000 in the championship odds.

Tigers Starting to Growl

Since a season-opening loss to Florida State, LSU has topped 500 yards in total offense in each of its three wins and that includes conference wins against Mississippi State and Arkansas.

LSU is leading the SEC in total offense and that is a good thing because the defense is allowing 30 more yards per game than the Tigers surrendered during a run to the SEC title game in 2022. Keep that in mind when looking at the Louisiana State vs Mississippi odds.

Jayden Daniels leads the SEC in passing efficiency, touchdown passes, and passing yards per game with Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas ranking second and fourth in the SEC in receiving yards.

Now they got up against the No. 8 rated pass defense in the SEC.
The total has gone over in each of LSU’s last eight games.

Rebels Changing Things Up a Bit

A year ago it was a near 50-50 split between rushing yards and passing yards for Ole Miss.

With Zach Evans off to the NFL and last year’s SEC rushing champion Quinshon Judkins off to a slow start, more has been placed on the shoulders of quarterback Jaxson Dart. Dart had 694 passing yards through the first four games in 2022. The number has jumped to 1096 so far this season. Dart is also the leading rusher for Ole Miss. His impact on the Ole Miss offense is a part of the Louisiana State vs Mississippi odds.

Jordan Watkins and Dayton Wade are both in the top 10 in the SEC in receiving yards while Tre Harris is tied for second with five TD catches.

The total has gone under in four of the last six games played by Ole Miss.

Last Meeting

LSU trailed by three points at halftime before outscoring Ole Miss 28-0 in the second half as the Tigers won 45-20 in a game that was listed as a Pick’em at kickoff. The game went over the 64-point total on a Josh Williams 1-yard run and the ensuing extra point with 2:05 to play.

Jayden Daniels threw two touchdown passes and ran for three others in a game featuring 904 yards of total offense.

It was the third straight time that the home team won the LSU-Ole Miss game.

What to Expect

Buckle up because this could be quite the offensive showcase.

The 67.5-point total is tied for the second-highest among games involving Power-5 conference teams in Week 5.

It might not be a repeat of the entertaining 53-48 win by LSU in 2020, but both defenses will be tested early and often. The defenses rank 10th and 11th in the SEC in yards allowed per game.

Five of the last six games between the Tigers and Rebels finished over the total with six of the last nine times that LSU played in Oxford, the game also went over the total.

LSU has won eight of its last nine games against SEC West teams.

When looking at recent NCAA football news, Ole Miss lost a pass catcher when tight end Michael Trigg left the program. Harris is questionable as is tight end Caden Prieskorn with LSU defensive back Greg Brooks out indefinitely.

Ole Miss is 16-2 in its last 18 home games. The Rebels have lost two of the last three games at home versus LSU.

Ole Miss has lost five of its last six conference games and it could be a struggle to reverse that trend with LSU coming to town.
