Texas Longhorns 2023 Future Odds: National Championship, Conference, Regular Season Wins and Player Props

Longhorns Will be Better Than Last Year's 8-5 Team

The Texas Longhorns pretty much played as expected in 2022. Texas had a win total of 8.5 and won eight games on the season. The Longhorns are expected to be a little better this season and return a number of players from last year’s squad. The 2023 Texas Longhorns stats should show a bit of a drop-off in rushing. But the passing game can surpass last year’s numbers with Quinn Ewers returning at quarterback.

Longhorns Look to Leave Big 12 in Style

This will be the final year in the Big 12 Conference for the Texas Longhorns, who will be switching NCAAF conferences next season and joining the SEC. Texas hasn’t won a Big 12 title since 2009 but is favored to win it this season. There’s plenty of reason for optimism in Texas, which had another solid recruiting year.

Texas returns nine starters on offense, including the entire offensive line. But one of those losses comes in the form of Bijan Robinson, who won the Doak Walker Award for the top running back in college football. Robinson rushed for 1,580 yards and 18 touchdowns last season. The Longhorns have several possible replacements, including freshman CJ Baxter, the highest-rated recruit among running backs.

Ewers is still a work in progress, but he’s likely to build on last season. The 2023 Texas Longhorns stats should show the team making more use of Quinn Ewers and his passing ability. He has plenty of targets returning and several good ones coming in. Wide receiver is a definite team strength.

The defense returns many of its key cogs and added a couple of transfers to pick up some slack for a few departures. Middle linebacker Jaylan Ford is coming off a monster season that saw him record 119 tackles, four interceptions, and two fumble recoveries. The Longhorns return three players up front and are primed for another strong season after allowing 21.6 points per game last year.

National Championship Odds: Longhorns are Longshots

Texas is at +2000 to win the national championship, which is half of the +4000 it was last year. The Longhorns have several tough games on the slate, including an early season matchup at Alabama and a couple of tough conference games, especially in the second half of the season. Texas will need a lot of things to go right and realistically can afford just one loss this season to have a chance.

Conference Odds: Texas Back in Favorite’s Role

Once again, Texas sees its odds cut in half from a year ago. The Longhorns were +230 to win the Big 12 Conference last year, trailing only Oklahoma, and are good-sized favorites this year. The Red River Rivalry should be a decent game this season, and teams like Kansas State and TCU are tough foes to play against. Texas does have the talent to take the conference if the running game gets untracked.

Regular Season Wins: Double-Digit Victories Needed

The Longhorns are going to have to win 10 games to make over 9.5 wins bettors happy and it’s a definite possibility. The Week 2 game against Alabama will be tough and the Big 12 Conference schedule is never going to be easy. There are several games the Longhorns could lose, but they’re also good enough to run the table if they can avoid injuries.

The Longhorns can play defense, which is something not every team in the Big 12 can say. Texas tied Kansas State for allowing the fewest points in conference games and Big 12 champion TCU was third. A number of Big 12 teams can score. But not many of them can stop the opposition. The 2023 Texas Longhorns stats could be better defensively than they were a year ago.

Last year the Longhorns had a win total of 8.5 and Texas came up a bit short with eight victories. Texas did go 8-5 against the college football point spreads, so weekly bettors were happy with the Longhorns. But those who bet the over were not, especially since several of those losses came as 7-point favorites.

To Make Playoffs: Yet More Creative Headline

The odds on the Longhorns are fairly low at +325. Those wanting to wager Texas doesn’t make the playoff field will have to lay -450. It’s hard to picture Texas making the playoffs as a two-loss team. So the Longhorns are going to have to beat Alabama or run the Big 12 Conference table. A loss to the Crimson Tide and one in conference play won’t get the job done.
