Byron Pringle in 2023: Which Team Could Use The Free Agent Receiver?

Pringle Can Help as Receiver or Kick Returner

Football can be fun, but the NFL can also be a harsh business. Not too long ago, Byron Pringle was a talented multi-purpose receiver for the budding Kansas City Chiefs. He won a Super Bowl in his rookie year and was coming into his own in 2021. But after signing with the Bears in 2022, it all went downhill. Now, he’s a free agent looking for a new team.

Who is Byron Pringle?

Pringle in 2022: Bit Player For a Bad Team

Pringle was an unsung hero for Kansas City during its playoff run in 2022. Unfortunately, the team was upset by the Bengals in the Conference Championship and Pringle was neutralized. He followed that up by getting arrested in the offseason and was not brought back by KC. Instead, he signed a one-year deal with Chicago but got hurt early in the season.

He never fully recovered. He was used minimally and his NFL stats suffered as a result. In 11 appearances for the Bears, he caught just 10 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Byron Pringle was also not used to return kicks as he was in Kansas City. The Bears finished with the worst record in the NFL and Pringle was not re-signed.

Byron Pringle’s Player Profile & Stats

Pringle was an undrafted free agent coming from Kansas State in 2018. The Chiefs signed him in 2018 but he got injured and did not make his regular-season debut until the following year. He played in all 16 games though he did not start. In the playoffs, he won a ring with KC even though he did not play a single snap.

Career Stats

Byron Pringle showed flashes in his limited appearances with Kansas City. His stint with Chicago is forgettable, but a team desperate for receivers could take a flyer on him.

Pringle remains one of the more interesting NFL players currently available. His stats may not “wow” as much, but he’s still just 29. Several teams could use Pringle to bolster their receiving corps.

Which Teams Would Suit Pringle?

Byron Pringle is one of the best available receivers. There are DeAndre Hopkins, Julio Jones, Kenny Golladay, and Jarvis Landry to name others. But teams like New Orleans, Green Bay, and Carolina have spots in their receiving rosters that Pringle could find himself in.

The Saints have Michael Thomas and Chris Olave as their top two receivers. But Thomas has been injury-prone and Pringle could compete for the backup spot behind him.

In Green Bay, new quarterback Jordan Love will need all the targets he can get. Behind Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs, Pringle could be the third guy who should either falter or get hurt.

And in Carolina, Terrace Marshall Jr. and DJ Chark Jr. and not sure bets to secure the receiving position. Pringle could compete with them and others like Jonathan Mingo to be the ones catching rookie Bryce Young’s passes.
