Chase Young’s Next Team: Lions, Seahawks, and Bears Favored
The fourth-Year Pro has Played in Just 12 Games Over the Last Two Seasons

The Washington Commanders will not pick up the option on DL Chase Young’s 2024 contract, all but sealing the deal that Young will likely move on from Washington if training camp proves that Young is still not 100%. The former pro bowler was supposed to wreak havoc on NFL QB stats, but the 2020 No.1 overall pick’s inability to stay on the field likely means the end of his time in DC. The question remains, where is Chase Young’s next team? We check in on NFL odds to understand where the oddsmakers think he’ll eventually end up.
+800 Steelers, 49ers In Mix For Young
Very little has come out of the Commanders’ camp about what they’ll do with Chase Young. There are some financial restraints, but for now, Young is not being actively shopped, but you would have to think that Washington GM Martin Mayhew is turning away calls for the 2020 AP Rookie of the Year after starting just two games in 2022. In 2021, Young tore his ACL, playing nine games after finishing with 7 ½ sacks in his rookie season.
The San Francisco 49ers certainly won’t be hurting for competition at the DE position heading into camp, but word is if the ‘Niners aren’t convinced they have enough depth, Young should be on a shortlist if SF is willing to pay the price, likely to be a second-rounder as of now.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been whispered as a team that might take a look at Young, but if you want to place a wager on this prop, we would suggest that Pittsburgh is less likely to get Young than San Francisco, even if their odds are exactly the same. Our best guess is that betting on either of these teams would be a long-shot wager. Bookmakers and oddsmakers have weighed in on who they think will be Chase Young’s next team.
Lions, Seahawks, and Bears Early Favorites To Land Young
You know it’s June, because we have plenty of time to discuss Chase Young’s future, complete with odds. Remember, these numbers are based on Young not returning to the Commanders, which could still have been. The Detroit Lions are +400 favorites to land the Maryland native.
Detroit owns the fourth most cap space ($23 million) and has focused on defensive depth this offseason. Aiden Hutchinson has been as advertised, but with Young, the drop-off wouldn’t be massive if Hutchinson is injured. Romeo Okwara and John Cominski are adequate, but the Lions are hoping to build an elite defense, and the addition of a healthy Young would certainly fit that narrative.
The Seahawks and Bears are the second choices at +500. Chicago is in a situation much like the Lions, with a ton of cap space ($31.6 million) but looking to add depth after signing free agent Demarcus Walker in March.
Seattle may be an unfamiliar system for Young but is, but it’s no secret that Pete Carroll may not be done adding to his defense after landing free agent Dre’Mont Jones who started 13 games for the Denver Broncos in 2022. So where is Chase Young’s next team? Even though the Commanders will have to work through some murky waters financially, if Young is 100%, he’ll stay in Washington with the Bears (+500) as our second choice.
