Chiefs Over & Under Props: Somehow Kansas City Tight End Travis Kelce is Being Undervalued

Hardman Will Miss Super Bowl but Other Kansas City Receivers Look Fantastic

Will Veterans Smith-Schuster and Valdes-Scantling Break Free on Super Sunday?

The last time the Kansas City Chiefs played in the Super Bowl, the football injuries on the offensive line caused issues. This time the health of the wide receivers is what is generating most of the buzz. Do not forget that when looking at the Chiefs over and under props.

It has been mostly good news as JuJu Smith-Schuster and Kadarius Toney have been able to practice. That could be crucial in terms of the Chiefs over and under props in the coming days.

Kansas City has thrown the ball on 80 of 130 plays in the first two playoff games so look for Patrick Mahomes to be spreading the ball around once again when the Chiefs face the Eagles on Sunday night.

The Super Bowl odds list the Eagles as the slight favorite with the total already starting to move up. There are other odds to consider as we look at some of the prop bets with the Kansas City pass catchers.

Another Night to Remember for Kelce

In 17 career postseason NFL matchups, Kelce has topped the 90-yard mark nine times and that has happened seven times over the last eight games. Keep that in mind when looking at the Chiefs over and under props.

That makes it seem like it is a no-brainer to go over 78.5 receiving yards for Travis Kelce. He has been targeted 26 times in the two playoff games and pulled down three touchdowns. The last time the Chiefs played in the Super Bowl, he was targeted 15 times as he had 10 catches for 133 yards in the loss to Tampa Bay.

One concern is that the Philadelphia Eagles led the NFL in sacks during the regular season and if the Eagles start getting to Patrick Mahomes, that could cut down on the number of pass routes that Kelce gets to run. It seems more likely that the Chiefs would call upon the other tight ends to help with the blocking rather than to keep the best pass catcher on the team from going out on patterns.

If Mahomes has to get the ball out quickly, that could mean even more work for Kelce since he thrives when working in the middle of the field. Kelce is also the front-runner with a price of +575 to score the game’s first touchdown. That is something he has done in both of Kansas City’s playoff games as well as in three of the contests during the regular season.

Valdes-Scantling to Make Play

During the regular season, it was pretty much an all-or-nothing proposition for receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

He came down with only 42 of the 81 targets during the regular season despite having Patrick Mahomes throwing to him. When he did make a catch, it usually wasn’t a 5-yard dump off. He averaged 16.4 yards per reception and nine times had at least one catch of 20 yards or longer during the regular NFL season.

With question marks surrounding some of the other outside receivers, there could be a chance for the former Green Bay Packers deep threat to make a big play or two.

The Chiefs over and under props are at -115 for him to go either over or under 19.5 yards and that seems a tad on the low side for a player who has 24 catches in his last four playoff games so go with the over once again.

Toney Looks Good To Go

Kadarius Toney is trending in the right direction as the Super Bowl approaches.

Mecole Hardman will miss the game and that could open up some opportunities for Toney, who started the season with the New York Giants to make his presence felt.

The prop bet is currently at 23.5 yards and that is understandable with Toney finishing with nine receiving yards in the AFC championship game against Cincinnati.

Toney played just four offensive snaps in that game. Look for him to be on the field much more frequently against the Eagles.

The only other time he played the Eagles, he was targeted nine times. That came during his rookie season with the Giants. He topped 50 yards twice with the Chiefs so it is not too much to ask for him to at least get to 24 yards.

Smith-Schuster Back in Playoffs

When Tyreek Hill, one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, was traded to Miami in the offseason, JuJu Smith-Schuster was among the players brought in to try to fill the void.

He had at least five receptions in all but one game during the regular season. Smith-Schuster, who had a 13-catch game in the playoffs when he was with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is another of the receivers slowed by injury. He was back at practice and looking pretty good according to Kansas City head coach Andy Reid. Jump on Smith-Schuster at -105 to go over 3.5 receptions because that doesn’t figure to be there as he continues to show that his knee injury won’t keep him out of the Super Bowl.

Smith-Schuster had only three catches for 36 yards in the first two playoff games for the Chiefs.

He played 65 and 73% of the offensive snaps in the first two playoff games. As long as there are no setbacks with the knee injury, expect that number to go up on Sunday.
