Colts’ Jonathan Taylor: Running Back With Something to Prove

Indianapolis Star Looks to Move Past Injury-Filled 2022 Season

The Colts’ Jonathan Taylor is a man on a mission in 2023. Coming off his worst season, an injury-plagued campaign, Taylor is out to regain his spot as one of the top running backs in the game. After missing six games in 2022, Taylor is anxious to get the new season started.

After a successful college career at Wisconsin, Taylor was selected No. 41 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. He opened the season as the backup to Marlon Mack but still saw action in Game 1. Taylor had 22 rushing yards and 67 receiving yards.

But the NFL results saw Jacksonville take a 27-20 victory. Mack was injured during the game and Taylor moved into the starting spot. He ended the season with 1,169 rushing yards and 36 receptions for 299 yards. He scored 11 rushing TDs and had one touchdown reception.

2021 Season

The Colts’ Jonathan Taylor entered the 2021 season full of optimism and it turned out to be well-deserved. Taylor had a monster season, leading the league in rushing with 1,811 yards and adding 40 receptions for 360 yards. He had 18 rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns.

The Colts nearly made the playoffs, needing to win against Jacksonville in the final game of the year. The NFL lines had Indianapolis -14, but the Jags pulled off a stunning 26-11 upset. The loss kept Taylor and Colts from the postseason.

Taylor would win several awards during the year. He was the AFC Offensive Player of the Month in November, captured the Bert Bell Award and was named to the Pro Bowl.

2022 Season

Everybody was anxious to see what the Colts’ Jonathan Taylor was going to in the 2022 season. He started off strong, gaining 161 yards in the opening game of the NFL season. But he began having ankle problems early on. Taylor would go on to miss Weeks 5, 6 and 9 due to a sprained ankle. While he played, it was apparent he wasn’t 100% and would go on to miss the final three games of the season.

Career Stats

Despite only playing three years, the Colts’ Jonathan Taylor has put up some pretty impressive statistics. Taylor has gained 3,841 yards on 786 carries, giving him 5.1 yards per attempt. He’s scored 33 rushing touchdowns. Taylor has also hauled in 104 receptions for 802 yards and three touchdowns. While he has had 860 touches, he’s fumbled just eight times, with the Colts losing six.
