Cardinals Struggling to Seal the Deal

Among the many issues for Arizona is that the Cardinals are 31st among 32 teams in fourth-quarter scoring as the Cardinals are 1-4 in one-score games this season.

Arizona ranks near the bottom of the NFL in yards per passing attempt and passing yards per game. Keep that in mind when it comes to the Cardinals vs Steelers spreads.

The Cardinals have allowed the second-most points in the NFL and are 31st out of 32 teams in scoring defense in the fourth quarter of games.

Quarterback Kyler Murray is back, but many of his top pass catchers are either out or iffy to play. Tight end Zach Ertz is sidelined and now there are questions regarding tight end Trey McBride as well as a couple of NFL receivers.

Arizona Cardinals has covered in just three of its last nine games.

Steelers Showing Signs of Life on Offense

In the first game since firing offensive coordinator, Pittsburgh put up 421 yards of total offense with quarterback Kenny Pickett throwing for a season-high 278 yards.

A big part of the passing offense was tight end Pat Freiermuth. After being held under 10 yards in four of the first five games that he played during an injury-plagued season, Freiermuth caught nine of 11 targets for 120 yards while running back Najee Harris ran for 99 yards. They could play key roles when it comes to the Cardinals vs Steelers spreads.

Pittsburgh has covered in 11 of its last 15 games.

Last Meeting

The last time the teams met was in 2019 when Pittsburgh was favored by 2.5 points on the road and won 23-17 as Diontae Johnson returned a punt for a touchdown and also had a touchdown catch.

The game fell under the 43.5-point total as the Steelers extended their winning streak against Arizona to four NFL games.

Cardinals vs Steelers Betting Preview

It has been a bit of a grind for a pair of teams led by young quarterbacks with Pittsburgh is 28th and Arizona is 29th in passing offense.

Pittsburgh is 24th in passing defense compared to Arizona ranking 15th in passing yards allowed per game. So that is something to keep in mind. Both teams have 32 quarterback sacks this season.

Arizona has lost its last nine road games and the last seven contests against AFC teams.

Pittsburgh is 4-1 against the spread in its last five home games.

The Steelers are 3-0 at home versus Arizona at home dating back to 1985 and covered in each of those games. Six of the last nine matchups between the Cardinals and Steelers landed over the total.

Pittsburgh is 3-1 against the spread as a favorite this season with Arizona splitting its 12 games as the underdog. The Steelers have covered in both games this season as a home favorite with Arizona 2-4 as the road underdog.

It is hard to have much confidence in Arizona and especially when the Cardinals play on the road. Obviously, keep an eye on the practice updates on Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett.

Arizona would pick second if the 2024 NFL Draft order was decided by the current records. With the Cardinals 3.5 games out of the final playoff spot in the NFC, when do the Cardinals go into full “wait until next year” mode?
