Week 12 Saw More Overs Than Unders
For the third time this season, there were more overs than unders last week in the NFL. A lot of that had to do with the first four games of the week going over the total. Sunday and Monday saw a 5-7 totals record. The latest NFL Week 13 odds show there are only four games on the NFL schedule this week to have totals below 40. We’ll take a look at several of the games with an emphasis on over/under betting.
Lions vs Saints

Lions Look to Bounce Back
The Detroit Lions didn’t play one of their better games on Thanksgiving, losing to Green Bay 29-22 as 8.5-point favorites. They’ll try for the second week to tie their NFL win totals of 9 for the season. The offense has been the strong point of the team throughout the season.
Detroit is averaging 26.7 points per game against NFL teams allowing 21.2 points. The running game is better than it gets credit for. Detroit rushes for 136.9 yards per game and 4.6 yards per carry. The Lions throw for 268.5 yards per game and 7.3 yards per pass attempt.
Defensively, the Lions are allowing 23.5 points per game. Detroit doesn’t allow a lot of yards, but gives up a point for every 13.6 yards allowed. The Lions have to do better than that if they want to make any noise in the postseason. Detroit is adequate against the run and the pass, although it is a little better against the run.
New Orleans Tied For Division Lead
The NFC South wasn’t a very good division a year ago. It’s not very good this year, as New Orleans and Atlanta are tied for first place with 5-6 records. At 4-7, Tampa Bay is just a game behind.
The Saints are averaging 20.8 points a game, doing most of their damage through the air. New Orleans is throwing for 242.7 yards per game and rushing for just 104.4.
Defensively, the Saints don’t defend the run very well, allowing 124 yards per game and 4.5 yards per carry to teams that average 4.0 yards a rush. New Orleans is pretty solid against the pass, allowing 196.3 points.
The Lions should be able to run the ball with some success against the Saints. That should help keep the clock moving and shorten the game. With the NFL odds showing 46 on the total, will go ahead and grab the under in this game.

Miami Offense Still Going Strong
The Miami Dolphins have been among the league leaders in scoring since posting 70 points on Denver in Week 3. The Dolphins are still going strong offensively and bring the No. 2 scoring offense into this game with Washington. The Commanders allowed 45 points to Dallas last week, helping the Cowboys pass the Dolphins for the league’s scoring lead.
Miami doesn’t have a real weakness offensively. The Dolphins run for 145.2 yards per game and pass for 285.3. Miami leads the league in yards per play at 6.9. The Dolphins’ rushing attack has hit a little bit of bump in the road.
After rushing for more than 100 yards in five of their first six NFL games, Miami has only broken the 100-yards barrier twice in its last five games. But the Washington defense might be just what the Dolphins need.
Miami’s defense isn’t all that bad. But the Dolphins allow too many points for the number of yards they give up. Miami is allowing 305.2 totals yards, but is allowing 22.8 points per game. The Dolphins rank No. 28 in defensive yards per point.
Washington Defense Struggling
The Commanders aren’t a very good offensive football team. But they’re just plan bad defensively. Washington is allowing 29.2 points to teams scoring 21.3 points.
The Commanders aren’t very good and are worse against the pass. To make matters worse, the Commanders rank No. 30 in defensive yards per point. It’s no wonder Washington is 4-8 on the season.
The Commanders can actually run the ball fairly well. Washington is averaging 4.5 yards per rush against teams allowing 4.3 yards. But the Commanders don’t stick with the running game. Washington is passing 40.5 times per game and running 21.4 times. The Commanders are -9 in turnovers for the year, which hasn’t helped matters.
The Dolphins should be able to do some damage against Washington’s poor pass defense. But Miami can also move the ball on the ground. Washington’s best chance against Miami is going to be to try and run the football.

Kansas City Getting Job Done Defensively
The Kansas City Chiefs aren’t scoring a lot of points any longer. But they’re still winning, which is really the only thing that matters. Kansas City is averaging 23.3 points per game against teams allowing 22.8 points.
The Chiefs are running the ball for 106.5 yards per game and throwing for 258.5 yards. Kansas City hasn’t done a good done of capitalizing on its opportunities and hurting itself at other times. The Chiefs are -5 in turnovers for the season.
Kansas City has been solid on defense, allowing 16.5 points per game. The Chiefs aren’t that good at stopping the run, but the pass defense has been pretty good. Kansas City allows 290 total yards per game, so the Chiefs are getting the job done on defense.
Packers Playing Better of Late
Green Bay has won three of its last four games to move to 5-6 on the season. The offense and defense have played a little better than average over that stretch.
For the season, Green Bay is averaging 21 points per game. The running attack hasn’t been anything special, while the passing attack has been pretty average. The Packers haven’t hurt themselves on offense for the most part.
On defense, Green Bay has been fairly average, allowing 135.2 rushing yards and 205.1 passing yards. The Packers are allowing 20.4 points per game, so the defense has kept Green Bay in some games when the offense isn’t clicking.
The Chiefs have been one of the best under teams in the NFL this season. Even with their over in Las Vegas last week, Kansas City is 3-8 in totals. With the latest NFL Week 13 odds on this one at 42, will take the under in this one as well. If Kansas City’s defense comes to play, it could be one of the lower-scoring games among today’s NFL scores.
