Juventus and Atalanta Win Midweek

Heading into Serie A Matchday 7, both Atalanta and Juventus are in the top four. With a 1-0 win over Lecce, Juventus climbed to third place and a 1-0 win at Verona meant Atalanta took fourth. Two of Italy’s top teams will meet on Sunday as they look to solidify their places in the top four.

Home wins for Atalanta over Juventus have been few and far between but the gap between the sides has closed over the last few seasons. Ahead of Sunday’s match, we’ll run through the Atalanta vs Juventus odds in what promises to be an exciting Serie A contest.

ATA Atalanta vs. Juventus JUV

Location: Gewiss Stadium, Bergamo, Italy
Date & Time: Sunday, October 1st, 12:00 p.m. ET

Head-to-Head:

In the last 22 years, Atalanta have just one Serie A home win vs. Juventus. Last season’s Serie A results were 2-0 to Juve in Bergamo and a 3-3 draw at the Allianz Stadium in Turin. Even though Atalanta have struggled vs. Juventus at home, in the last five Serie A meetings overall La Dea lead the series 2-1. There have also been two draws during that time. These teams also met in the 2021 Coppa italia final, which Juventus won 2-1.

Atalanta on Clean Sheet Streak

Last Thursday, Atalanta opened up their UEFA Europa League campaign with a comfortable 2-0 win over Rakow Czestochowa. Charles De Ketelaere and Ederson got on the scoresheet in Bergamo. A few days later, Atalanta managed another clean sheet and 2-0 result vs. Cagliari. De Ketelaere provided the assist on Ademola Lookman’s goal and substitute Mario Pasalic doubled La Dea’s lead in the second half.

Midweek, Atalanta went up against Hellas Verona in Verona and Le Dea’s Teun Koopmeiners scored the game’s only goal. De Ketelaere had a point blank header that could have doubled Atalanta’s lead but he somehow sent it over the bar.

Atalanta have been a good pick for betting on soccer over the last couple of weeks, especially when betting on Atalanta to keep a clean sheet. They haven’t conceded a goal in any of their last three games, in all competitions. Still, Juventus will present a much tougher test on Sunday and La Dea have striker Gianluca Scamacca out for this one. Regardless, the Atalanta vs Juventus odds price the hosts as +145 favorites.

Juventus Bounce Back on Tuesday

Juventus had conceded just two goals in their first Serie A matches to open up the 2023-24 campaign. Then, they went to Sassuolo last weekend and fell 4-2 in an embarrassing performance. Juve put the loss behind them on Tuesday by defeating an upstart Lecce side, 1-0. Weston McKennie sent in a cross that Adrien Rabiot headed across goal and Arkadiusz Milik got on the end of it in his first Serie A start of the season.

With the win, Juventus are now in third place in the Serie A table and have compiled a 4-1-1 record so far. If not for a ten-point deduction last season, they would have finished in the top four and they’re picking up where they left off last season. Unfortunately, they’ll have to make do without Paul Pogba, who’s suspended indefinitely due to suspected doping.

Mattia De Sciglio, Moise Kean and Alex Sandro are also out at the moment, due to injuries. Juve have managed to get on the scoresheet in all of their matches and Federico Chiesa has been their biggest attacking threat. His marauding runs on the left wing are a defender’s nightmare and he’s scored four goals so far. Dusan Vlahovic has also scored four times but Massimiliano Allegri rested him on Tuesday.
