Australia Blow Away Indonesia

Australia sailed through the group stage to finish first in Group B. They defeated India 2-0 in their opener and took down Syria 1-0 in their second match to seal knockout stage qualification.

Socceroos midfielder Jackson Irvine scored in both matches and Mathew Ryan kept back-to-back clean sheets. In the group stage closer, Australia drew 1-1 vs Uzbekistan to seal first place in the group.

That set up a round of 16 matchup vs Indonesia. Australia made the most of their chances and came away with a 4-0 victory and a fifth straight Quarter-Final appearance.

Martin Boyle has scored in each of Australia’s last two matches and the Hibernian forward should earn another start here. Meanwhile, defender Harry Souttar is a massive set piece threat and he’s scored 11 goals in 26 Australia appearances.

Bettors should note Australia haven’t lost vs AFC opposition since falling to Saudi Arabia in a March 2022 World Cup qualifier. The Socceroos have also won seven of their last eight games overall. Here, the Australia vs South Korea odds price the Socceroos as +220 underdogs.

South Korea defeated eventual group winners Bahrain 3-1 in their opener but drew with both Jordan and Malaysia. The Taegeuk Warriors conceded two goals vs Jordan and three goals vs Malaysia.

PSG attacking midfielder Lee Kang-in managed to score three goals in the group stage and he’s an integral part of a talented group of attackers. Son Heung-min has won the Asian Footballer of the Year seven years in a row and Jurgen Klinsmann also has Hwang Hee-chan and Cho Gue-sung to call on. On Tuesday, South Korea fell behind vs Saudi Arabia in the round of 16 and Gue-sung rescued them.

The Midtjylland striker came on as a substitute and scored a 99th minute header to equalize and send the match into extra time. Korea had a bunch of chances to win the match in extra time but the match went into penalties.

In the shootout, goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-woo saved two PKs and Korea converted all four of their penalties to advance to the Quarter-Final.

South Korea have come close to winning the Asian Cup a few times this millennium but their last title was over 60 years ago. Son will undoubtedly want to add to his legacy and win a major international trophy. Expect South Korea to come out firing.
