Brad Katona Headlines UFC 297 Prelims

Strickland vs. Du Plessis Betting Preview

Before the main event between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis comes the preliminary card, which features four fights.

Our Strickland vs Du Plessis betting preview looks at those four fights, which could be just as exciting as the main card.

We’re particularly interested in Brad Katona vs Garrett Armfield, which highlights the prelims.

Katona vs Armfield

There are a lot of expectations on Katona, who is 15-2 following a UFC debut win over Cody Gibson.

He came through The Ultimate Fighter series, where he rubbed a few feathers. However, there’s no denying his ability.

His next UFC fight won’t be easy against Armfield, who is 9-3 following a first round knockout of Toshiomi Kazama.

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

It showcased his power, so Katona will need to watch out for that. However, Katona is a smart fighter, and we’re not surprised by the -185 odds.

In terms of UFC events, this is a big one for their respective careers. Katona could have a bright future should he get past Armfield, and we think he’ll get the job done.

He’s a solid UFC parlay inclusion at the odds.

Jourdain vs Woodson

Sean Woodson is another Ultimate Fighter alum, but he’s not expected to beat the experienced Charles Jourdain on Saturday.

Woodson is an awkward UFC fighter with only one loss on his record, so he can’t be overlooked at the +155 odds.

He hasn’t fought anyone of note, which is the problem, especially compared to Jourdain, who has fights against Kron Gracie, Ricardo Ramos, and Shane Burgos.

Jourdain has the benefit of fighting in front of a home Canadian crowd, and our Strickland vs Du Plessis betting preview is interested in taking his UFC odds.

Bettors get -185 for Jourdain, and although we respect the unique fighting style of Woodson, we don’t think the underdog will beat the favorite.

Sidey vs Taveras

Most of the early money has come for Serhiy Sidey, who is a 10-1 fighter.

He doesn’t have any UFC results as this is his UFC debut, so expectations are high for the former BFL fighter.

He won the title in that organization before winning on Dana White’s Contender Series against Ramon Taveras, who he fights again at Scotiabank Arena.

It took him only 2:26 to knock out Taveras, who was given another chance on the Contender Series. This time, the American took his opportunity to beat Cortavious Romious in just 29 seconds.

It was an impressive knockout, but given Sidey’s performance in their first meeting, we’re including him in our Strickland vs Du Plessis betting preview.

He’s another favorite, but it could be a night for favorites, and bettors should have expected something around -220 for Sidey, who looks to have more upside in what could be a wild contest.

Robertson vs Viana

Gillian Robertson is the dominant -250 favorite to beat Polyana Viana, following a loss to Tabatha Ricci.

We haven’t been overly impressed with Robertson, who is only 12-8, but she’s a local fighter who will have crowd support.

Viana was submitted by Iasmin Lucindo in her most recent fight, and she also has a loss to Ricci which came by decision.

Her best performance came when knocking out Jinh Yu Frey in 47 seconds. Having that power is good in the women’s strawweight division, and we don’t think Robertson will look to take her down.

There is upset value with Viana, who owns two Fight of the Night titles, and that could be enough to see her win at +200.
