Week 9 at a Glance
Battlehawks vs Renegades
Location: Choctaw Stadium; Arlington, Texas
Day/Time: TV & Live Stream: ABC, ESPN+
- Spread: Battlehawks -3.5, Renegades +3.5
- Moneyline: Battlehawks -192, Renegades +160
- Total: Over 46, Under 46
The Battlehawks edged D.C. 26-21 in Week 8 keep pace with San Antonio atop the XFL Conference at 6-2. They have already clinched, so playoff positioning is the goal over the next two weeks.
Led by quarterback A.J. McCarron, who has 14 touchdown passes compared to only three interceptions. St. Louis has ranked at or near the top of the UFL in offense all season. The Battlehawks (+240 championship odds) have scored 20-plus points in seven straight games and are averaging 28.1.
They will have an opportunity to build on that against the 1-7 Renegades, who rank second-to-last among UFL teams in total defense (319.1 yards allowed/game). Arlington has given up at least 20 points eight times.
Amid their struggles, Luiz Perez leads the UFL with 1,835 passing yards.
Stallions vs Brahmas
Location: The Alamodome; San Antonio
Day/Time:
TV & Live Stream: ABC, ESPN+
- Spread: Stallions -8.5, Brahmas +8.5
- Moneyline: Stallions -440, Brahmas +340
- Total: Over 44, Under 44
Birmingham is clearly the UFL’s team to beat. The Stallions are 8-0 and lead the league in both total offense (371.8 yards/game) and total defense (242.8 yards allowed/game). Their championship odds have climbed from +300 to -155.
Thanks in large part to Adrian Martinez, the Stallions are averaging 34 points over the last four weeks. The former University of Nebraska star has thrown for 1,375 yards and 13 touchdowns and rushed for 431 yards and three more scores.
At -8.5, the Stallions are the biggest favorites on the UFL Week 9 odds board. They still may be tested by San Antonio (6-2), which beat Arlington 20-15 in Week 8 to clinch a playoff spot. The Brahmas (+800 championship odds) are still in contention for a division title, though they’ll likely need to win out. With Birmingham awaiting in Week 10, that seems unlikely.
Quinten Dormady played well last week (17 of 25, 320 yards, 2 TD), but quarterback remains San Antonio’s weakness. John Lovett is the league’s second-leading rusher with 422 yards on 103 carries (4.1 average).
Location: Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium; Memphis Defenders vs Showboats
Day/Time:
TV & Live Stream: Fox
- Spread: Defenders -5, Showboats +5
- Moneyline: Defenders -238, Showboats +138
- Total: Over 46, Under 46
The Defenders are simply playing out the string at 3-6. Losers of two straight and four of their last five games, they’ve already been eliminated from playoff contention.
Protecting Jordan Ta’amu remains an issue. The reigning XFL Offensive Player of the Year has been sacked 13 times, including twice in last week’s 26-21 loss to St. Louis. He also threw his league-leading sixth and seven interceptions. The Defenders covered as 7.5-point underdogs, though it was only a minor consolation.
Memphis, meanwhile, is just 1-7. Its only win came in Week 1 against Houston, 18-12.
Unsurprisingly, the Showboats rank last in the UFL standings in both total offense (233.6 yards/game) and total defense (349.9 yards allowed/game). There’s not much to look forward to.
Panthers vs Roughnecks
Location: Rice Stadium; Houston
Day/Time: TV & Live Stream: Fox
- Spread: Panthers -3, Roughnecks +3
- Moneyline: Panthers -185, Roughnecks +154
- Total: Over 40, Under 40
Winners of four straight, the Panthers have locked up a playoff spot at 6-2. They have the longest odds of any playoff team at +950, though there is not much separating them from the favorites. The Panthers beat St. Louis 18-16 in Week 1 and played Birmingham tough the next week, falling 20-13.
They beat Houston 34-20 in Week 3 of the 2024 UFL schedule. Dual-threat E.J. Perry passed for 208 yards and a touchdown and ran for 60 yards and two more scores.
Houston’s only win (1-7) came in Week 4 against Arlington, 17-9. The Renegades were competitive last week, covering as 16-point underdogs in a 35-28 loss. Still, there is not much upside here.
