Nearly 68 Million People Expected to Bet On Game
Every year the amount of money expected to be wagered on the Super Bowl increases. But there’s some rationale behind this year’s increase. As sports betting is legalized in more states, more people are able to place bets. But betting through sportsbooks is just one way of wagering on the big game. The Super Bowl LVIII record betting estimate also includes people making wagers with friends or playing box pools.
The American Gaming Association, the “premier national trade group for the U.S. casino industry,” released its annual Super Bowl wagering estimates for 2024’s game. The AGA is predicting 67.8 million Americans will have some sort of wager on the game. They will bet an estimated $23.1 billion on the game, which is a 35% increase from last year’s Super Bowl.
How They Will Bet
The majority of Super Bowl LVIII Super Bowl record betting participants are going to place an online bet through a sportsbook. Forty-six percent of respondents said they will be betting online. The next choice at 36% was people casually betting through friends. The next choice was the traditional Super Bowl box pools, which are popular at workplaces and taverns.
That made up 24% of respondents. There were 14% of respondents who said they would be betting through a bookie, while 11% said they would bet at a physical sportsbook. The percentages exceed 100 since a number of people will be making more than one sort of bet. A person who bets online can also partake in the box pools, while also having a few wagers with friends.
Super Bowl Bettors Will Vary
The Super Bowl attracts all types of bettors. There will be those who could care less about about the NFL stats QB or the Super Bowl expert picks and will bet on a team based on its name. This year, there could be Taylor Swift fans betting Kansas City or those who don’t care for her betting on the 49ers. There will be bettors wagering staggering amounts of money and those who spend $1 on a box pool. Some of the bettors will be diehard fans who know virtually everything about each team and watch games every weekend. Others will not have followed the NFL bracket at all and just know who is playing in the game.
The Super Bowl has become more than a game. It’s an event. There will be millions of Super Bowl parties on Sunday and not everybody present will even be interested in the game. But that doesn’t mean they won’t have some sort of vested interest in the outcome of the Super Bowl.
