How To Bet On Brock Purdy In Super Bowl LVIII

Which 49ers Quarterback Props Will Cash On Super Bowl Sunday?

From Mr. Irrelevant to Super Bowl Champion. Doesn’t that have a nice ring to it? That would be quite the accomplishment for Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers.

Purdy got his chance during his rookie season last year after Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance went down with injuries. He was terrific in his rookie season and led the 49ers into the NFC Championship Game. However, the Niners didn’t start that game off well. Purdy had an injury to his elbow when trailing, which essentially didn’t allow him to throw the football.

The 49ers were toast and essentially couldn’t wait to return to the field this year.

They did exactly what they wanted. The 49ers got into the playoffs and are now playing for the Super Bowl with Purdy under center.

In the middle of the year, Purdy was even in MVP talks. He threw for nearly 4,300 yards in the regular season and added 31 passing touchdowns with only 11 interceptions. Whether he’s a system quarterback or not, those stats are really good compared to other quarterbacks around the league.

But can anyone expect Purdy to outshine Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl LVIII?

The Super Bowl date is February 11. Let’s break down all of the major 49ers quarterback props below.<

Purdy Passing Yards (245.5 -115)

Brock Purdy hit at least 246 yards passing in 67% of games this season.

He was even fifth in the NFL in passing yards this year. Beyond that, Purdy threw for 252 yards against the Packers in the NFC Divisional Playoffs and added 267 yards in San Francisco’s win over Detroit.

It’s likely that Purdy will also get over the total against the Chiefs. However, it’d be because the Niners are trailing, and he’s adding quick and easy completions in soft coverage late in the game. After all, Purdy has only completed 61.4% of passes in the playoffs this season and has yet to put together a complete game in the playoffs.

Sometimes, losing early helps a quarterback get Over on his passing yards prop. That’s what could happen in this game.

Purdy Passing Attempts (32.5 -115)

Purdy has only attempted 33 or more passes in 11% of games this season. Even against the Lions, down multiple scores early, Purdy only added 31 passing attempts.

The Chiefs are good at forcing errors and putting quarterbacks in tough spots. The Niners know this, too. Therefore, the run game might be the way to go for the 49ers.

If the run game gets working, Purdy and the Niners could add some play action and earn a big play down the field. But overall, it’s unlikely the 49ers will allow Purdy to throw this many times. They’re going to want to limit turnovers with Purdy.

Purdy Passing Completions (21.5 -115)

Purdy has also completed just 22 passes in 22% of games this season. In a massive comeback against the Lions in the NFC Championship Game, Purdy added only 20 completions. However, he averaged 8.6 yards per completion.

The Niners have the potential to put together extended plays. However, again, if Purdy doesn’t drop back 33 or more times, it’s more likely he won’t complete 22 or more passes. However, some 49ers quarterback props will get Over.

Purdy Passing Touchdowns (1.5 -115)

Despite the 49ers scoring 58 points in two playoff games, Purdy has just two passing touchdowns.

The 49ers will give the ball to Christian McCaffrey around the goal line every time. With Purdy’s inexperience, unless it’s fourth down, the ball is going into the hands of a running back.

Purdy and the 49ers ganged up on bad teams throughout the year. That helped Purdy’s stats. Against the Chiefs, with Steve Spagnuolo running the show, Purdy’s not going to earn two or more passing touchdowns. The NFL scores won’t be too high in this one.<

Purdy Rushing Yards (12.5 -115)

In the regular season, Purdy never showed off his legs. He took off 39 times and added 144 yards rushing. That was an average of 3.7 yards a carry.

He rushed twice in his final three games to finish the regular season.

However, in the playoffs against the Packers and Lions, Purdy took off 11 times and added 62 rushing yards for an average of 5.6 yards a carry.

Purdy showed off his legs against the Lions, adding a 21-yard rush that turned some heads. The former Iowa State quarterback has some wheels. With Kansas City sending the blitz plenty in this game, look for Purdy to break away from a couple to earn some yardage with his feet. The Over is the play here.

Purdy Rushing Attempts (3.5 -115)

Purdy has seen an uptick in his rushing attempts in the playoffs. He averaged 2.6 carries in the regular season and has added almost double that in the playoffs, with 5.5 carries a game.

This man is always focused and trying to do whatever he can to help the team win. He’s gotten more comfortable with escaping the pocket and has serious ability with his legs.

The Chiefs know it’s coming after watching the tape last week, but as fullback Kyle Juszczyk stated on the Pat McAfee Show, Purdy makes those plays once or twice a game where he breaks a tackle and creates yards off a broken play. We’ll count on him to do more of that in the Super Bowl.

Purdy Anytime Touchdown (.5 +550)

If the 49ers are around the red zone, they’re not thinking twice. Christian McCaffrey is getting the ball three times. If it becomes fourth down, Purdy will have to throw it, but he certainly won’t have enough time to get around the defense for a touchdown. There’s no value here. He had just two rushing touchdowns this season.

There are better 49ers quarterback props to consider than this one when looking at the Super Bowl odds.
