San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey found new light after being traded by the Carolina Panthers last October. After playing just 10 games in two NFL seasons for the Panthers, the team was ready to move on.

Still, it needed to show that the 3-time pro bowler was healthy enough to be shopped after dealing with multiple injuries in 2021, including a strained hamstring that forced him to miss five games and a grade two high ankle sprain that finished his season after playing seven games.

McCaffrey hasn’t been scott-free of injury but has been healthy enough to play in 26 of 27 games as a member of the Forty-Niners. Let’s dive into Christian McCaffrey’s stats and what his impact has been for bettors along with a current injury update on his right shoulder which was dinged up in 2020. The current Super Bowl spread is San Francisco -2 (47.5) and McCaffrey’s health is a massive factor in who the public will put their money behind.

McCaffrey Falls Short Of Mark; Shoulder Not A Concern

Another 41 yards and Christian McCaffrey would have had 1500 yards rushing. As it is, his 1459 yards were a career-high in addition to the 83 first downs he produced. Perhaps the latter number means more than the first to San Francisco’s head coach Kyle Shanahan. It’s an indication that McCaffrey is the weapon Shanahan leans on in big spots.

The Colorado native set career highs with 339 touches, yards from scrimmage (2,023), and rushing and receiving touchdowns with 21. The former Stanford running back saved the best for last during the regular season when he powered his way to 152 yards rushing (season-high) in week 17 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a 30-7 49ers win on the road.

In the postseason, the 5-11, 205-pound back has pounded-out 188 yards in two games including a 5.08 yards per carry average. Things haven’t all smooth after McCaffrey went out of last week’s win against the Detroit Lions with a right shoulder injury but a day later said it felt fine and wouldn’t be a factor in the Super Bowl.

San Francisco will have their first workout in preparation for the Super Bowl Thursday. Let’s continue our Christian McCaffrey stats analysis by breaking down what he’s meant to the betting public.

McCaffrey’s Impact On Gambling

There are many ways to attack this part but let’s tie it into the Super Bowl and perhaps give bettors an understanding of what Christian McCaffrey’s presence has meant for bettors in his career.

As we got into this we realized that having McCaffrey in the line-up made it more difficult to put our cash behind San Francisco because the lines were inflated. We’re well aware that it’s not just the infusion of McCaffrey that has inflated numbers but it’s a massive factor.

Last year, the Niners were 11-6 ATS, adding to a 20-14 ATS mark since 2021-22, but this year the NFC champions barely profited in the regular season with another 9-8 ATS record. We suspected that’s because the lines were higher. After all, we know San Francisco hasn’t been underdogs very any time over the last two seasons, five in 34 games to be exact before this year.

Only nine times have bettors had to lay more than seven points heading into this season but in 2023 books were asking the public to lay a touchdown or more ten times with San Francisco covering five times in addition.

Then in the postseason this year, San Fran was asked to cover two more double-digit spreads, failing to do so despite beating the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers straight-up. McCaffrey may have been a massive missing piece for Shanahan but his presence has not helped bettors overall.

Some Props Are Out And McCaffrey Bettors Have Options

To wrap up our Christian McCaffrey stats analysis, we thought we’d leave you with a few of the props that are out with a ton still to come. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is a +135 favorite to win the Super Bowl MVP for the third time with Brock Purdy behind him at +250.

Next on the list is McCaffrey at +400. This is an attractive wager because if you think San Francisco will win then Mahomes is eliminated, which leaves Purdy, McCaffrey, and perhaps Deebo Samuel (+2000) as MVP competition.

In our way-too-early prop recommendation, we think McCaffrey is an excellent option even though we know ten of the last 15 Super Bowl MVPs have been quarterbacks and 32 of 58 overall (55.17%). Only seven running backs have won the award and the last was in 1998 when Terrell Davis won it for the Denver Broncos.

This year, there is a +200 prop that any other position other than quarterback will win the MVP but if you wanted to get the entire stable of running backs to win the award, no matter what team, they’re from, books are giving out +375 on that prop.

No matter what happens in Vegas on Super Bowl Sunday, one sure bet is that Christian McCaffrey is going to be a massive part of the San Francisco game plan and we don’t have to lay more than a touchdown this time around.

The Green Bay Packers gave San Francisco all it wanted in the NFC Divisional Playoffs. But San Francisco scored late on Christian McCaffrey’s second rushing touchdown of the game, and the 49ers advanced to the NFC Championship. It’s no surprise the 49ers gave the ball to McCaffrey when the game was on the line. The seventh-year pro has made a career of coming up big. The Christian McCaffrey stats show how good the San Francisco running back has been in the National Football League.

McCaffrey was highly ranked coming out of Colorado, where he was the Gatorade High School Player of the Year in his junior and senior seasons. Having his choice of colleges, McCaffrey elected to play at Stanford, where he set the NCAA record for all-purpose yards as a sophomore. He became the first Cardinal to run for over 2,000 yards and was the Associated Press College Football Player of the Year in 2015.

After his junior season, he decided to enter the NFL Draft. The Christian McCaffrey stats at Stanford show 3,922 rushing yards and 1,206 receiving yards. He returned 34 punts for 380 yards and 56 kickoffs for 1,479 yards. He scored 33 touchdowns with Stanford.

McCaffrey was drafted No. 8 overall by Carolina in 2017 and played in all 16 NFL games as a rookie. He rushed for 435 yards and had 80 receptions for 651 yards.

He broke out slightly in his second season, rushing for 1,098 yards and adding 107 receptions out of the backfield. McCaffrey had his best season with the Panthers in 2019, rushing for 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns while adding 116 receptions for 1,005 yards and four more NFL scores.

McCaffrey had two injury-plagued seasons in 2020 and 2021, which occurred after the Panthers made him the highest-paid running back in NFL history at that time. After six games of the 2022 NFL season, McCaffrey was traded to San Francisco for four draft picks.

McCaffrey paid immediate dividends for San Francisco. He scored 10 touchdowns in 11 regular season, but saved his best for the playoffs. The NFL bracket had the 49ers meeting Seattle in the first game. McCaffrey rushed for 119 yards and had a receiving touchdown against the Seahawks.

He had a rushing touchdown the following week in a win against Dallas. But the Eagles were too much for the 49ers in the NFC Championship game. McCaffrey scored the only San Francisco touchdown in the 31-7 loss.

McCaffrey’s 1,459 yards led the NFL in rushing for the 2023 season. He scored 14 rushing TDs and added seven receiving touchdowns to give him a league-leading 21 scores. He also led the NFL in yards from scrimmage.

But the 49ers traded for McCaffrey for the postseason, and he is a big reason why San Francisco is one of the more popular NFL picks in the Super Bowl odds. He came up big against Green Bay, helping the team return to the NFC Championship game. He rushed for 98 yards and two TDs and added seven receptions.

For his NFL career, the Christian McCaffrey stats show 1,297 carries for 6,185 yards and 52 touchdowns. He’s added 509 receptions for 4,320 yards and 29 receiving touchdowns.
