Is Bayern’s Reign About to End?

Bayern Munich have dominated the Bundesliga for a full decade, with ten straight titles. That could come to an end on Saturday as Borussia Dortmund are in position to win the Bundesliga with a win over Mainz. Bayern slipped up last weekend by losing 3-1 to RB Leipzig and are no longer in the driver’s seat. In the closest title race in quite some time, we’ll take a look at the final weekend Bundesliga Matchday 34 odds. Along with the title race, the fourth Champions League team and two teams in the relegation zone are yet to be determined.

Games of the Week

BVB Borussia Dortmund vs Mainz M05

Date, time:

In one of the highest stakes Bundesliga matches possible, Borussia Dortmund host Mainz on Saturday. The stage is set for Dortmund to potentially win their first title since 2011-12 and they can do it in front of their home fans to boot. Last weekend, Dortmund’s Sebastien Haller scored twice as BVB took down Augsburg, 3-0.

Just a few months ago, Haller was in chemotherapy for testicular cancer but he’s made an incredible recovery and played a key role in Dortmund’s title challenge. Entering the weekend, Dortmund are -800 favorites to take home the title.

Safe from relegation and unable to qualify for European tournaments, Mainz can only stop Borussia Dortmund from winning the title in this one. They’ve faltered in recent weeks, with three straight losses and their last two have come by a three-goal margin.

Mainz have also conceded at least three goals in each of their last four Bundesliga contests. For Saturday’s match, they are massive +1100 moneyline underdogs. Borussia Dortmund enter the match as two-goal favorites and have solid odds to cover the spread, at -130. Ludovic Ajorque is suspended for the visitors, who sit at +110 ATS odds.

Starting Mainz goalkeeper Robin Zentner also missed their last match with a knock. He’s doubtful  for this one as well. Dortmund phenom Jude Bellingham missed the win over Augsburg with a knee injury and is questionable for Saturday’s match.

Sitting two points ahead of Bayern Munich, a draw would be a massive disappointment for Edin Terzic and Dortmund. That’s because Bayern are well ahead on goal difference, the first tiebreaker. A draw displays +700 odds for this match but Borussia Dortmund have won their last four games vs. Mainz. Both over and under four goals come in at -110 odds on what could be a euphoric day for Borussia Dortmund.

KOE FC Koln vs Bayern Munich FCB

Date, time:

It’s do or die for Bayern Munich on Saturday as they absolutely need to win to have a chance of defending their title. The ten-time defending champions head on the road to an FC Koln side that has been in good form as of late. In fact, Koln have lost just one of their last eight Bundesliga matches. The hosts have also tallied eight goals in their last three matches. Meanwhile, Bayern have dropped two of their last five matches at the most inopportune time.

Regardless, the Bundesliga Matchday 34 odds price Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern as 1.5-goal favorites for Saturday’s match. Bayern -1.5 comes in at -135 odds as they look to bounce back from a 3-1 defeat to RB Leipzig. Koln are 6-5-5 at home this season and show +115 odds to cover on Saturday. FC Koln are winless vs. Bayern since 2011 but did manage to pick up a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture. A draw displays +525 odds for Saturday’s season finale.

Notably, Serge Gnabry has found the net in four straight matches for Bayern Munich. Only Niclas Fullkrug has scored more times than Gnabry in the Bundesliga this season. Gnabry will look to get on the scoresheet again as Bayern are -350 moneyline favorites for this match. Koln won 5-2 vs. already-relegated Hertha BSC in their last home game but are +725 underdogs for this one. Bayern have averaged 3.25 goals per game alone in their last four matches vs. Koln but under four goals show -130 odds for this one. Bayern’s reign could very well come to an end no matter the result, as they sit at just +500 odds to lift the Bundesliga trophy on Saturday.

Champions League Race

RB Leipzig sealed a fifth straight Champions League appearance with their 3-1 road win over Bayern Munich. They’ll finish in third place no matter what happens on Saturday. Meanwhile, two teams are embroiled in a tight battle for the last UCL place. Union Berlin enter the weekend in fourth place in the Bundesliga standings ahead of SC Freiburg just on goal difference. With a win on Saturday, it is very likely that Union will make their first-ever Champions League appearance. If Union win, Freiburg need to win by a margin four goals greater than Union to overtake them in the table.

Union Berlin host a Werder Bremen side safe from relegation but without any European hopes on Saturday. Union are 1.5-goal favorites for the match but display just +125 odds to cover. Meanwhile, Niclas Fullkrug and Werder Bremen show -145 odds to cover. Union have won just one of their last four matches, which was a 4-2 triumph over Freiburg. Still, the hosts are -255 favorites for this one. Werder have lost their last four matches vs. Union and are +675 underdogs. A draw shows +375 odds and over 2.5 goals display -130 odds.

Meanwhile, SC Freiburg finish the season on the road at Eintracht Frankfurt with midfielder Nicolas Höfler suspended. Frankfurt still have something to play for as a win could mean they qualify for next season’s UEFA Europa Conference League or Europa League. Freiburg have won just one of the last six meetings between the two sides and are underdogs here. In this pick’em, Frankfurt sit at -115 odds to cover and Freiburg show -105 odds. Frankfurt are +145 moneyline favorites, while Freiburg aren’t far behind, at +155 odds. A draw will only seal a UCL spot for Freiburg if Union Berlin lose and a deadlock stands at +295 odds here. The odds price under three goals at -120 odds for a crucial match for both sides.

Relegation Fight

Hertha Berlin will finish the season in last place and go down to the 2. Bundesliga. Still, there are four teams in the relegation picture heading into the final weekend. This season, the Bundesliga is the only top-five European league to employ a relegation playoff. So, the 18th and 17th-placed teams will automatically go down to the second tier. However, the team that finishes in 16th place will contest a two-leg playoff vs. the 2.

Right now, Schalke are in 17th on 31 points and VfL Bochum are in 16th place, with 32 points. Stuttgart are also on 32 points, with a better goal difference than Bochum, and Augsburg sit on 34 points.

Only a win over RB Leipzig can possibly take Schalke out of the relegation zone. The Bundesliga Matchday 34 odds list Schalke as one-goal underdogs for the match, though.

They do show -125 odds to cover but enter the match as +325 moneyline underdogs. A draw could be enough to finish in the relegation playoff spot if VfL Bochum lose on Saturday. A Schalke draw vs. Leipzig comes in at +350 odds.

Meanwhile, VfL Bochum host a Bayer Leverkusen side gunning for a European berth. Bochum are unbeaten in their last two matches but are 0.5-goal underdogs for this one.

The hosts stand at -115 ATS odds and +240 moneyline odds. They can also ensure survival with a draw and Stuttgart loss vs. Hoffenheim. Bochum are 7-2-7 at home this season and a draw shows +300 odds for the match.

Stuttgart are -180 favorites when they take on Hoffenheim on Saturday and a win would keep them in the Bundesliga. They also enter the match as one-goal favorites at -110 odds to cover and have lost just one of their last six matches.

Augsburg are most likely safe regardless but a draw removes all doubt. At Borussia Monchengladbach, Augsburg are +190 underdogs and a draw sits at +285 odds.
