UCL Quarter-Final: Real Madrid vs Man City Odds

Last Two Winners Clash

Rodri Unbeaten Run Continues

The last time Manchester City lost a 90 minute match with midfielder Rodri in the lineup was in February 2023.

Since then, City have won the FA Cup, Premier League, Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup. On Tuesday, Rodri’s incredible run will be at risk when Man City head to Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League Quarter-Final.

Real haven’t lost a 90 minute match since September and will want to get revenge on City for last year’s Semifinal. As the last two UCL winners meet, we’ll preview the Real Madrid vs Man City odds.

Real vs Manchester Head-to-Head

This is the third time in as many seasons the UCL draw has paired Real Madrid and Manchester City in the knockout stage. In last season’s Semifinal, Man City drew 1-1 at the Bernabeu in the first leg. Heading back to Manchester, the Real Madrid vs Man City odds listed City as -350 favorites to advance. At the Etihad, City defeated Real 4-0 to advance to the Final.

In the 2021-22 Semifinal, City won the first leg 4-3 and held a 5-3 lead deep into the second leg. However, Rodrygo scored two late goals for Real to force extra time and Karim Benzema scored a penalty in extra time to send Los Blancos through. Still, Man City have lost just one of their last six games vs Real Madrid.

Real Get One Week Rest Ahead of Quarters

La Liga had a break over the weekend, with the Copa del Rey Final happening. Real Madrid had some time to rest and recoup before Tuesday’s crucial match vs Manchester City. The last time Real played, on March 31st, they defeated eventual Copa del Rey champions Athletic Bilbao in La Liga.

Rodrygo scored twice at the Bernabeu to keep Los Blancos eight points ahead of second-placed Barcelona. Vinicius Junior has also scored three goals in Real’s last three matches heading into Tuesday. Defender Eder Militao also made his long-awaited return vs Bilbao after being sidelined eight months with an ACL injury.

Real are unbeaten in their last eight UCL fixtures after losing 4-0 to Manchester City in last season’s Semifinal second leg. However, things were a little too close for comfort in the Round of 16 vs RB Leipzig. Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin was called into action plenty of times in both legs.

In the first, Real managed a 1-0 victory on the road but they were outplayed in the 1-1 draw in the second leg at the Bernabeu. Real simply cannot afford to put in the same effort vs a team of Man City’s caliber.

Los Blancos have drawn three of their last seven matches but are still unbeaten in their last 35 ninety minute games. With Thibaut Courtois out for the season, Lunin has deputized in goal and will continue to do so.

David Alaba is also out for the rest of the season but Antonio Rudiger and Nacho have been a solid pairing at the back. Real’s midfield will be key here as they try to slow down City. Jude Bellingham, who will be in the starting lineup on Tuesday, ranks third in the UCL with eight goal contributions.

Man City Find Their Form

Since a scoreless draw vs Arsenal at the end of March, Manchester City have scored four goals in each of their last two games. Last Wednesday, Man City defeated Aston Villa 4-1 as Phil Foden scored a hat trick. On Saturday, City went on the road to Crystal Palace and came away with a 4-2 victory.

Kevin De Bruyne was at his best, as City’s legendary midfielder scored with either foot and provided an assist. The Belgian’s first goal was outrageous, as he curled a right footed shot into the top corner.

Jack Grealish tends to go under the radar but his work down the left flank was incredibly important last weekend. While he didn’t officially register an assist, he was involved in all four goals.

Erling Haaland also got on the scoresheet after getting benched on Wednesday and a three game goal drought. After all, Haaland is tied with Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann for the lead in the Champions League stats, with six goals.

Julian Alvarez has also found the net five times and Foden has scored four UCL goals and provided four assists. At the moment, few players across Europe are playing as well as Foden has.

In the Group Stage, Man City won all six of their matches and they also picked up two 3-1 wins over Copenhagen in the Round of 16. City are unbeaten in their last 21 games in the Champions League, which is the second-longest streak all-time.

Match Analysis & Odds

Manchester City’s last Champions League loss came against Real Madrid and Real’s last UCL loss was against City. It’s unfortunate that the last two champions and favorites to win the competition were drawn against each other once again before the Final but it makes for an entertaining watch.

Currently, the Real Madrid vs Man City odds list this one as a pick’em. Although Nathan Ake and Kyle Walker could both miss this one for City, they’re +145 favorites. Ederson was on the bench for Saturday’s game after returning from an injury but Stefan Ortega still started in net for Man City and did quite a good job.

Bettors can take Real Madrid at +185 odds here, while City pk comes in at -125 and Real pk sits at +105. After all, City have lost just one of their last six games vs Real Madrid. In the loss, Pep Guardiola’s side were a few minutes away from a win if not for Rodrygo’s heroics.

Along with Rodrygo and Vini, there are plenty of players on this Real Madrid side with extensive UCL pedigrees. Luka Modric and Nacho have both won the Champions League five times.

City finally got over the hump last season and haven’t shown signs of slowing down, at least not in the UCL. City to qualify for the Semifinal currently displays -200 odds. A draw (+240) certainly wouldn’t be a bad result for City who very rarely lose back in Manchester. A low-scoring match could be on the cards here, as under 2.5, 3 goals are priced at -115.
