MUFC Ready To Roll Past Coventry City at Wembley

Red Devils Heavily Favored Per Coventry City vs Man United Odds

United With Extensive Injury List

Coventry City and Manchester United both advanced to the FA Cup Semifinal under the most dramatic circumstances. Now, the EFL Championship club will take on one of England’s biggest teams at Wembley Stadium on Sunday. Coventry are in their first FA Cup Semifinal since they won the competition in 1987. This is a massive occasion for the club. Meanwhile, United are looking to return to the Final for a second straight season but they have a long list of injuries.

Regardless, we’ll discuss the Coventry City vs Man United odds as the winner will face Chelsea or Manchester City in May’s FA Cup Final.

Coventry City vs Manchester United

Date, time:
Location: Wembley Stadium, London, England

Head-to-Head

This is the first opportunity to bet on the Coventry City vs Man United odds since the third round of the 2007 EFL Cup. Sir Alex Ferguson fielded a team with just one player over 25 years of age. Coventry managed to defeat United 2-0.

From 1992-2001, Coventry City played in the Premier League and beat United just once in 18 tries. These teams haven’t played any FA Cup fixtures against each other since 1987 either. That year, Coventry defeated United 1-0 in the fourth round, but Man U are 2-1 vs. Coventry in the FA Cup all-time.

Coventry Complete Improbable Comeback

When Coventry City fell behind 2-1 at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup Quarter-Final in the 88th minute, it appeared their run would be over. Commentator Jonathan Pearce exclaimed, “They’ve won it Wolverhampton Wanderers, Hugo Bueno off the bench to score the winning goal and break Coventry hearts” However, seven minutes into stoppage time Coventry’s Ellis Sims scored his second goal of the match to equalize. Before the final whistle, Haji Wright scored the winning goal for Coventry to complete a highly improbable comeback.

Since that incredible win, Coventry have gone just 2-3 in the EFL Championship. They’ve lost back-to-back games for the first time since November and have conceded at least two goals in three of their last four. On Saturday, Coventry, fighting for a promotion playoff spot, fell 3-0 at Birmingham City.

Yet, they’ve been excellent in the FA Cup so far. Coventry have scored 18 goals in four FA Cup matches. Simms ranks joint second in the competition, with five goals. Granted, the FA Cup bracket 2024 has only pitted Coventry against one Premier League side previously. They defeated Oxford United, followed by wins over Sheffield Wednesday, Maidstone United, and Wolves. At the moment, midfielders Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and Jamie Allen are out injured.

Defensive Injuries Hampering Man United

Erik ten Hag and Manchester United are dealing with injuries at the moment. Harry Maguire was the only senior center back available for Saturday’s match at AFC Bournemouth. Bournemouth opened up the scoring, as Dominic Solanke made 19-year-old center-back Willy Kambwala look foolish. Bruno Fernandes did his best to keep Man United competitive, scoring twice in the 2-2 draw.

It doesn’t look like things will improve for United on the injury front. While Jonny Evans may return to start alongside Maguire, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and Victor Lindelof all look like they’ll miss out. Lindelof and Varane were the CB pairing for United’s thrilling 4-3 extra time win over Liverpool in the Quarter-Final. United were behind 2-1 deep into the second half before Antony equalized.

In extra time, the Red Devils fell behind 3-2 but goals from Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo completed the comeback. Scott McTominay, who scored United’s first goal, should return from an injury in time for this match. Still, Man United have conceded 11 goals in their last five matches as fullbacks Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia remain absent.

Match Analysis & Odds

En route to their first and only FA Cup title, Coventry knocked out Manchester United back in 1987. They’ll need to do so again in 2024 but the Coventry City vs Man United odds are against the second-tier club. Currently, Manchester United are -475 favorites to go through to the Final and -240 favorites to win in 90 minutes.

United have advanced in three of their last four appearances in the FA Cup Semifinal. All the while, Coventry are +475 underdogs (regular time) and they won’t be afraid of the moment. The EFL Championship club may look to United’s injury list and think they’ve got a decent shot of winning here.

A draw (+400) would send this one into extra time. Manchester United have already proven they can get the job done if it goes the distance vs. superior opposition. Man United haven’t been offensive juggernauts this season and Coventry may be able to keep this one close. Coventry +1, +1.5 comes in at -110 odds, while Man United -1, -1.5 stands at -115. As both teams have scored in each of United’s last five, over three goals are priced at -135 odds here.
