Dortmund Going for First UCL Final Since 2013 vs PSG

Visitors Favored According to Dortmund vs PSG Odds

Semifinal First Leg at Signal Iduna Park

Borussia Dortmund’s iconic “Yellow Wall” of fans will be completely behind them on Wednesday as they take on PSG at the Signal Iduna Park. Dortmund are looking for their first Champions League Final appearance since 2013. A result in the first leg would get them halfway there but PSG have proven to be a resilient bunch. The newly crowned Ligue 1 champions came back in the Quarter-Final second leg to Barcelona and look like a team that could win it all. The Dortmund vs PSG odds favor the visitors but we’ll discuss the full odds board later.

Head-to-Head

This is already the third chance to bet on the Dortmund vs PSG odds this campaign. Borussia Dortmund and PSG met twice on this season’s Group Stage Champions League schedule. Kylian Mbappe and Achraf Hakimi scored in a 2-0 PSG win in Paris, while the two sides drew 1-1 in Dortmund. Dortmund managed to finish ahead of PSG in Group F. However, PSG are unbeaten in their last three games vs. Borussia Dortmund. In six previous meetings, all-time, Dortmund are just 1-3-2.

Inconsistent Dortmund Stepping up in UCL

RB Leipzig tore apart Borussia Dortmund’s defense on Saturday in an important match in the Bundesliga top four race. With a 4-1 loss, Dortmund are now five points behind fourth-placed Leipzig with just three games to play. Dortmund did create their fair share of chances in the match, and Jadon Sancho scored an outrageous goal, but they had no answer for Xavi Simons and Lois Openda. Dortmund’s inconsistency has been a problem this season, but they have turned it on in the Champions League.

Following a 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the UCL Quarter-Final first leg, Dortmund grabbed a 4-2 home victory to send them through to their first Semifinal since 2013. Not many UCL soccer predictions had Dortmund advancing out of the Group of Death. So, this is an excellent achievement for Dortmund but they might not be done just yet.

Dortmund’s scoring in the UCL has been spread among a bunch of players. All of Niclas Fullkrug, Julian Brandt, Karim Adeyemi and Marco Reus have scored twice in the competition. Borussia Dortmund are unbeaten at home in the Champions League this season (3-2-0). However, defender Mats Hummels went off injured on Saturday and is doubtful for Wednesday. Ian Maatsen, who scored in the second leg vs. Atletico, also missed Saturday’s game. Meanwhile, Donyell Malen, Ramy Bensebaini and Sebastien Haller all look set to miss out.

PSG Win Title in Uneventful Fashion

PSG winning the Ligue 1 title has seemed like a foregone conclusion for quite some time now. Last weekend, they were crowned champions in just about the least eventful way possible. Paris Saint-Germain only managed a draw vs. Le Havre at Parc des Princes on Saturday. That meant they needed to wait for Monaco’s result at Lyon on Sunday. With Monaco’s 3-2 loss, PSG claimed a third straight Ligue 1 trophy.

In PSG’s match vs. Le Havre, Kylian Mbappe started on the bench once again but came on at halftime. Down 3-1 by the 61st minute, Goncalo Ramos assisted and scored to preserve a 3-3 draw. PSG weren’t one of the most popular Champions League picks heading into the Group Stage due to the nature of the group they were in. Just to make it to the Round of 16, they had two games each vs. Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Newcastle. So, both teams in this matchup are battle tested.

Ousmane Dembele was PSG’s most dangerous player over the two legs vs. Barcelona in the Quarters. He scored in both legs and was very effective on the right wing. While Mbappe was quiet for the first match, he scored twice in the 4-1 victory in the second leg. While PSG scored six goals over the two legs, they also conceded four times to Barcelona and they haven’t looked great defensively as of late. PSG have conceded in six straight matches heading into Wednesday’s match.

Match Analysis & Odds

So far, Borussia Dortmund are an unbeaten 3-2-0 at home in this season’s Champions League. The Yellow Wall provides an advantage on nights like these but PSG were unbeaten vs. Dortmund in the Group Stage. Currently, the Dortmund vs PSG odds give the visitors a better shot to come away with a victory. PSG are currently +145 road favorites, while bettors can back Dortmund at +180.

Dortmund will certainly be looking for a win, as they haven’t managed a road victory in the knockout stage yet. A draw (+265) would suit PSG but Luis Enrique won’t compromise his playstyle in pursuit of one. Either Julian Ryerson or Marius Wolf will certainly have their hands full with Mbappe on Wednesday. Dortmund’s backline isn’t the quickest and PSG could exploit that weakness.

In this pick’em, Dortmund pk sits at +105, while PSG pk is priced at -125. Finally, under 3, 3.5 goals come in at -125 odds. Both meetings in the Group Stage finished with two goals and Dortmund may want to slow down the pace of the game a little bit.
