AL East MLB Odds: Yanks Have Highest Win Total

Rays, Orioles Not Expected to Match Last Year's Wins

The American League East was full of surprises last season, both good and bad. Three of the five baseball teams finished with 9.5 more wins or losses than their season win totals. Baltimore had the biggest difference, but Tampa Bay and the Yankees were also far off their numbers. The AL East MLB odds for 2024 show the Yankees with the highest win total once again.

Red Sox logo Boston Red Sox (77.5, Under -120)

The Boston Red Sox caused more than one bettor some major heartburn last season. With a win total of just 78.5, the Red Sox entered September with a 78-74 record. The tail end of the season wasn’t kind to Boston, and the Red Sox went 9-19 down the stretch to finish 78-84 and miss going over by a half-game.

The Red Sox haven’t done much in the offseason, so it makes sense to see the win total close to last season’s. The Sox added Lucas Giolito but lost Chris Sale and James Paxton in the rotation. It looks to be another long season for Boston fans, and it is almost impossible to take the over 77.5 with the Red Sox.

The betting trends show the Red Sox were just 35-49 after a loss last season and that many losing streaks will take a toll on a team’s record.

Orioles logo Baltimore Orioles (90.5, Over -125)

The Orioles were the surprise team in Major League Baseball last season and easily sailed over the win total of 76.5 by finishing with a 101-61 record. Baltimore won its 77th game in the middle of August.

The AL East MLB odds for the Orioles show people are expecting Baltimore to come back down to earth a bit this season. Baltimore has the second-highest season win total and is also No. 2 in the MLB division odds that have the Yankees favored.

The Orioles lost Kyle Gibson, who chewed up a lot of innings in 2023, along with Adam Frazier, who knocked in 60 runs. The addition of Corbin Burnes was a big one. If Craig Kimbrel can pick up the slack for this MLB injury to closer Felix Bautista, the Orioles should be one of the best teams in the American League once again. Over 90.5 wins isn’t out of the question.

Yankees logo New York Yankees (93.5, Under -120)

The Yankees fell flat on their face last season, going 82-80 when they had a win total of 93.5. New York’s offense was a major disappointment and was the key reason for its struggles in the MLB standings.

Oddsmakers knew the Yankees weren’t going to stand still and they went out and picked up Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo. New York brought in a solid starter in Marcus Stroman, but lost reliver Michael King, which will hurt.

The win total of 93.5 might still be a little bit on the high side. The AL East is tough, and the Yankees will have 52 games against fellow division teams on the 2024 MLB schedule. New York will likely finish pretty close to its win total and is one of the tougher teams to pull the trigger on.

Rays logo Tampa Bay Rays (84.5, Over -120)

It seems like every year Tampa Bay gets a lower win total than expected and manage to go over the number. The 2023 season was no exception, as the Rays won 99 MLB games against a win total of 89.5.

It might be a little bit different for the 2024 Rays, however. Tampa Bay’s win total is down to 84.5 this season, but the team had some significant losses from a year ago. Tyler Glasnow has departed for the Dodgers and Shane McClanahan will miss the season recovering from Tommy John surgery.

The Rays did bring in some some players, but it’s hard to argue this year’s team is as good as last year’s version. The AL East MLB odds are low enough the Rays are capable of going over 84.5 wins if the starting rotation can get the job done.

Blue Jays logo Toronto Blue Jays (86.5, Over -125)

The Blue Jays came up a few games short last season, winning 89 games with a win total of 91.5. The Blue Jays received solid pitching for most of the season, but the offense didn’t quite perform as well as expected. It wasn’t bad, although it wasn’t the team strength many people expected heading into the year.

The Blue Jays were somewhat quiet in the offseason, at least pitching-wise, so it’s not really a surprise to see the win total come down to 86.5. The pitching staff may have performed above their head a little bit during the season.

The offense will get a boost from Justin Turner and Kevin Kiermaier performed well in limited duty last season. The key for Toronto’s offense will be Vladimir Guerrero or Alejandro Kirk bouncing back a little bit from last season. The Blue Jays look to be another team that will be close to their win total, but Turner will provide a decent bat and Toronto should be able to win enough games to get there.
