2023 Western Michigan Broncos Future Odds

Western Michigan's Depleted Roster Will Struggle

It’s a new era for the Western Michigan Broncos. After a 5-7 season in 2022, the Broncos finally decided to go a different direction with their head coach.

Tim Lester spent six seasons with the program. But now it’s Lance Taylor’s team. Taylor began his coaching career in 2009. He’s been an assistant with the Jets and Panthers and has coached with Stanford, Notre Dame, and Louisville before getting the job with Western Michigan.

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

This will be Taylor’s first season as a head coach. If anything, he certainly deserves the opportunity.

Can Taylor help Western Michigan compete for a MAC Championship and Bowl Game this season? Take a look at the Western Michigan Broncos future odds to see what oddsmakers think.

Expectations Are Low

The Western Michigan Broncos aren’t expected to be very good this year. The Broncos allowed 3.7 sacks per game last season, the fifth-worst in all of FBS.

The offensive line was abysmal last NCAAF season. The offensive line experience is better, but if the offensive line can’t stop the pass rush, you can forget about the season.

Meanwhile, the Broncos lost star running back Sean Tyler and star wide receiver Corey Crooms to Minnesota. Western Michigan also wasn’t very active in the transfer portal. They added Keshawn King from Virginia Tech. He’s expected to make the most significant impact at running back this season.

Still, the Broncos haven’t even decided on a quarterback yet. They can roll with Jack Salopek, who led the team in passing last year, who can ride it out with Treyson Bourguet, who is more of a mobile quarterback. However, it’s more likely that they’ll stick with Hayden Wolff, an experienced thrower from Old Dominion.

Whoever the quarterback is, they better be prepared to get rocked by the defensive line.

So Many Replacements on Defense

On defense, Eastern Michigan was dominant. But they’ve lost a lot of that talent from last year. They’ll no longer have Corven Moment, Zaire Barnes, or Ryan Selig, who also transferred to Minnesota. In the transfer portal, they also lost Andre Carter and Brandon Siske to other Power 5 schools.

Therefore, the Broncos are hoping that the second-team defense from last year will step up and play like the No. 1 defense this year.

The roster isn’t appealing on either side of the ball in Taylor’s first year as head coach.

National Championship Odds: Western Michigan Eagles

The Western Michigan Broncos future odds are wild. The Broncos are in the bottom 12 to win the NCAA Championship. They’ve got some of the worst NCAAF odds and probabilities.

The offense and defense lost so much talent to Power 5 schools. Yet, even with that talent, the Broncos couldn’t even win six games last year. Taylor will likely be a great coach and fit well for Western Michigan. But it will take time.

There’s no chance Western Michigan will play in the NCAA Championship.

Conference Odds: Is There Any Hope for WMU?

The Broncos could be the worst team in the MAC this season. They might be better than Kent State and could potentially beat Ball State this season. Otherwise, it won’t be a pretty first year for Taylor and Eastern Michigan.

The offensive line has been awful, and the best playmakers from the team left. Meanwhile, the Broncos rarely did anything significant in the transfer portal.

We’ve seen crazy things in college football. But I’d be shocked if Western Michigan won the Conference against teams like Toledo, Ohio, and Buffalo.

Regular Season Wins: Trending Downwards

Western Michigan won five games last year. However, the oddsmakers have this year’s line at 3.5 wins. That’s very fair.

Western Michigan will likely earn a win over St. Francis PA in their first game. But the Broncos have Syracuse, Iowa, and Mississippi State in their non-conference slate. It’s super unlikely that Western Michigan will earn any of those wins.

Meanwhile, they’ve got Ball State and Bowling Green at home. Those are two games that Western Michigan could win on its NCAAF schedule. Therefore, I see three potential wins and nothing more. You will not want to look at the NCAAF score for most of their games this season. It could get ugly.

Quarterback Hayden Wolff will be hit and sacked many times this season. It’s reasonable to think he could miss time due to all the hits. Meanwhile, Wolff is the only valid option for this offense, and if he’s gone, the team is done. The Under makes the most sense on Western Michigan’s total wins this year.

The Western Michigan Broncos future odds have an extremely low probability for a reason. Stay away.
