2023 Eastern Michigan Eagles Future Odds

Expect Samson Evans to Carry Offense in Running Game

The Eastern Michigan Eagles finished 9-4 overall and 5-3 in the MAC last season. The Eagles came close to playing for a MAC Championship last year but haven’t played in the MAC Championship since 1997, when the MAC Championship game became a thing.

However, things have changed since Chris Creighton took over the program. Creighton will be in his 10th season as head coach. He’s gone 46-61 with Eastern Michigan but has earned five college bowl appearances in seven seasons.

Eastern Michigan has improved drastically under Creighton. Will this be the year Eastern Michigan finally competes for a MAC Championship?

Plenty of New Faces on the Offense

The Eastern Michigan offense will have plenty of new faces this season. The Eagles will have to replace seven starters from last year’s roster.

Austin Smith will likely start for the Eagles. The junior quarterback completed 68 passes for 774 yards for six touchdowns. He also threw four interceptions and only completed 57.1% of his passes. However, Smith is also a very formidable runner. He rushed 61 times in eight games last season, earning 4.2 yards per carry.

The running game will also have Samson Evans. Evans added 1,166 yards and five touchdowns last season. He even earned over 250 yards against a Pac-12 team at Arizona State. Meanwhile, Jaylon Jackson will get some snaps when Evans needs a break. He’s another running back that will dominate if given space.

However, the receiver group is a bit weak. Tanner Knue will return, but you can expect Eastern Michigan to have more success on the ground than anything else.

No More Jose Ramirez…

Unfortunately, Eastern Michigan won’t have Jose Ramirez on the roster anymore. He’s on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after earning MAC Defensive Player of the Year.

However, the defense still kept yards per game under 400. In the MAC, that’s a difficult feat to do. The secondary should be its best position group, and they’re still returning two of their best tackles from last year’s season in Chase Kline and Joe Sparacio. Those two will add elite college football stats, with 200 tackles combined this season.

This defense isn’t great. But for the MAC, they’ll be one of the better ones.

Let’s break down the Eastern Michigan Eagles future odds markets below.

National Championship Odds: Eastern Michigan Eagles

No MAC team has a shot at playing for the National Championship this season. The Eagles haven’t even made a MAC Championship since the Championship began in 1997.

Eastern Michigan should earn a win over Howard in its first game of the NCAAF season. But they’ll head over to Minnesota for the second game. A loss to Minnesota would end any chance at winning a National Championship.

The Eagles are +500000 odds for a reason. Stay away.

Conference Odds: Could The Eagles Finally Earn a MAC Championship?

The Eagles should be formidable on the defensive end. But there are many questions on the offensive side of the ball.

Samson Evans and Jaylon Jackson should be one of the best duos in the MAC at running back. Those two combined over 1,500 yards and 17 touchdowns, averaging over 4.5 yards per carry.

However, the passing game is where things can fall apart. The Eagles don’t have a clear No. 1 receiver, and Austin Smith wasn’t very accurate.

The Eagles could have lower-scoring games in the MAC than their rivals. That’s one of my bold NCAAF predictions.

Regular Season Wins: 8 Wins?!

Some of Eastern Michigan’s NCAAF scores will be blowouts. The Eagles will face Howard, UMass, and Jacksonville State. Those are three pretty easy games for the Eagles. That’s ultimately why the Eagles are projected to earn seven wins by oddsmakers this year.

It’s doubtful that Eastern Michigan will earn a road win against Minnesota. However, the Eagles won their matchup against Arizona State last year.

Eastern Michigan will likely be 3-1 before conference play begins. Once conference play begins, the Eagles will face Central Michigan, Ball State, Kent State, Northern Illinois, and Western Michigan.

The Eagles defeated Central Michigan last year and earned a seven-point win on the road against Kent State. They also earned a win over Western Michigan but lost to Northern Illinois. If those results stand this year, they’ll be 6-2 before playing Toledo.

Eastern Michigan would likely lose to Toledo on the road. But then they’d face Akron to earn seven wins.

It would come down to Eastern Michigan’s final NCAAF matchup against Buffalo. But the Eagles allowed 50 points to Buffalo at home last season. Therefore, oddsmakers seem to be on point. I’ve got Eastern Michigan earning seven wins, and the oddsmakers have the line at 7. It’s easier to lose games than earn an upset victory. Regarding the Eastern Michigan Eagles future odds, the Under at +110 has the most value.
