Big 12 Wins Totals: Texas, Oklahoma Have Highest Numbers
Conference Welcomes Four New Teams in 2023

It’s no surprise to see Oklahoma and the Texas Longhorns have the highest number posted in the Big 12 Wins Totals. Both teams have 9.5 wins as their total. At the other end of the spectrum, West Virginia and Houston each have 4.5 wins listed. The Big 12 Conference is typically one of the best in the nation. This year shouldn’t be any different.
The Big 12 Conference sees Central Florida, Cincinnati, Houston, and BYU join the mix. None are expected to contend for the conference title right away. But all four teams have solid histories and can still land decent recruits.
The Texas Longhorns are the conference favorites and on paper is the team to beat. The Longhorns return nine starters on offense and six on defense. Quarterback Quinn Evers is a good one and Arch Manning is waiting in the wings. The key game on the Longhorns’ NCAAF schedule is Sept. 9 when they travel to Alabama.
The Big 12 Wins Totals show Oklahoma with 9.5 and that might be asking a bit much from this Sooners’ team. Oklahoma does have a favorable schedule with non-conference games against Arkansas State and Tulsa. The Sooners are in good shape with Dillon Gabriel at quarterback. But the number is a bit high and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Oklahoma with eight or nine wins.
The Wildcats return seven starters on offense and five on defense. Quarterback Will Howard is a solid quarterback. But with a total of 8.5, the Wildcats can’t afford any poor games. The schedule isn’t bad, but Kansas State does travel to Texas.
The Horned Frogs have just three starters back on offense. But that’s not counting quarterback Chandler Morris, who beat Max Duggan for the starting job last year before being injured. How he plays will go a long way in determining TCU’s fortunes. The defense returns eight starters.
The Bears are going to stick with quarterback Blake Shapen this season after he beat out Sawyer Robertson for the starting job. Richard Reese had a solid freshman season, but the Bears have plenty of question marks entering the season.
The Red Raiders return eight offensive starters and six on defense. Tyler Shough is back to lead the team’s high-powered offense. The question is going to be on the defensive side of the ball. Texas Tech offers a little bit of value at over 7.5 (+110).
The Big 12 Wins Totals give the Golden Knights a 6.5 for their first season in the Big 12. UCF may not be what it was a few years ago, but it’s still a decent football team. The rushing game will be strong, although there are a few questions on the offensive line. The cover appears to be the way to go with the Golden Knights.
The Jayhawks are no longer the doormat they were for years, but asking them to win seven games could be a bit much. Kansas has Jalon Daniels back at quarterback and he’s decent, throwing for 18 TDS and four interceptions last year. But Kansas has a tough time matching the physicality of some of the other Big 12 teams.
The Cowboys lost quarterback Spencer Sanders to the transfer portal and have many questions entering the season. Several other players saw time under center last year, but none were really impressive. Alan Bowman transferred in from Michigan. The defense has to do a better job stopping the run.
The Cougars and QB Kedon Slovis begin Big 12 Conference play this season and the 5.5 BYU received on the Big 12 Wins Totals seems a bit low. BYU is a better team than that even if last year wasn’t a great season by Cougar standards. The Cougars should be one of your NCAAF picks to go over the win total.
The Cyclones are going to be solid on the defensive side of the ball. It’s the offense that causes a bit of concern in the offense-oriented Big 12 Conference. Getting to six wins is going to be tough for the Cyclones. The under offers a better value than Iowa State.
The Bearcats are expected to have a bit of a tough go this season. But 5.5 wins is definitely on the low side for a team that has some talent. Non-conference games against Eastern Kentucky and Miami-Ohio should help the team get to six wins.
West Virginia 4.5 Wins
Over: -140
Under: +110
The Mountaineers are expected to be down this season and you can’t blame anybody who believes that. Quarterback is a question mark after losing JT Daniels. The defense is a bigger question mark and has to improve or it’s another long season for West Virginia.
Quarterback Clayton Tune took his 40 touchdown passes to the NFL and the Cougars won’t name a starter until August. Texas Tech transfer Donovan Smith is in the mix for the job. Houston was 8-5 last season but suffered non-conference losses to Kansas, Texas Tech, and SMU. That doesn’t give a lot of optimism heading into 2023.
