TCU Lands On List For Worst Regular-Season Win Total Bets This Season

We've Listed The Five Worst College Football Bets In Regards To Win Totals in 2023

There are always some major surprises in college sports. That’s why we love college athletics.

Every year, plenty of teams come out of nowhere and make a name for themselves. For example, the TCU Horned Frogs made the National Championship last season after being picked to finish near the bottom of the Big 12.

However, plenty of college football teams with high projections also underwhelm and miss expectations by a wide margin.

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

Below, we’ll break down the worst college football bets regarding win totals for the 2023 college football season.

Bears logo Baylor Bears (7 Wins -120/+100)

The Baylor Bears finished the regular season with three wins.

The Bears began the season with a 42-31 home loss to Texas State. That’s when most college football fans realized Baylor might not be as good as projected.

Baylor earned a couple of Big 12 wins and an easy NCAAF matchup against an FCS in Long Island. They lost every other game, including a few blowouts throughout the season.

Baylor quarterback Blake Shapen was injured in the Texas State game. He was never able to get in a rhythm since his return. Meanwhile, Sawyer Robertson was way worse. He threw 117 passing attempts and finished with two touchdowns and four interceptions.

But it wasn’t just the offense. The defense allowed at least 25 points in their last nine games. Under defensive genius Dave Aranda, that wasn’t expected.

Sun Devils logo Arizona State Sun Devils (5 Wins +135/-160)

Arizona State allowed at least 49 points in three of their last four games to finish out the season. Meanwhile, the offense scored just 17.8 points per game.

If you bet the Over, you implied that this Arizona State team would be good enough to make a college bowl game.

Instead, Arizona State became the laughingstock of the Pac-12. They won three games all year. One came against Southern Utah, while two wins were actually solid against Washington State and UCLA.

Still, the Sun Devils fell very short of their win total. But while they didn’t have a consistent quarterback throughout the season, the defense was also abysmal all season long.

Golden Gophers logo Minnesota Golden Gophers (7 Wins +110/-130)

The Minnesota Golden Gophers finished the regular season 5-7.

They’ll be in a bowl game because the NCAA needs one more team to be represented in a bowl game to fill all of their spots. Minnesota was the first team in line.

Still, the Golden Gophers were expected to hover around seven wins this season in a weak Big Ten West.

Instead, Minnesota lost to Purdue, Illinois, and Northwestern. However, that win against Iowa, 12-10, on the road, was one of Minnesota’s most impressive wins in the last decade.

The Golden Gophers were relying heavily on new faces. They had Tanner Morgan and Mo Ibrahim for many years. But those two graduated.

Therefore, the Golden Gophers went with Athan Kaliakmanis at quarterback. The sophomore was supposed to be a better quarterback than Morgan. Instead, he finished the season with only 1,838 yards. He threw 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions and had a 55 QBR. A five-win season has put Minnesota on the worst college football bets list this season.

Trojans logo USC Trojans (10 Wins +100/-120)

The talk coming into the season was about Caleb Williams taking the Trojans into the College Football Playoff after earning a Heisman the year prior.

Many analysts expected Williams to earn another Heisman award and compete for the Pac-12 Championship.

While Williams played well this season, the Trojans’ defense didn’t. Lincoln Riley and the USC coaching staff did Williams dirty with such a horrible display on defense this season.

Therefore, the Trojans only won seven games this season despite having a win total of 10.

If you bet the Over, you expected USC to earn 11 wins this season. They fell four games short with a weak bowl game on the slate.

It’s unlikely Caleb Williams and many of the seniors on offense for USC will play in the bowl game. That’s one of the NCAAF scores that can get lopsided in bowl season, depending on who the Trojans play on their NCAAF football schedule for their bowl game.

Horned Frogs logo TCU Horned Frogs (7.5 Wins -130/+110)

The TCU Horned Frogs couldn’t even earn a bowl berth this year after making it into the College Football Playoff National Championship game last year.

TCU finished the season with five wins after allowing 69 points to Oklahoma on Friday.

The Horned Frogs lost a lot of talent from their team a year ago. But many thought the TCU pipeline would increase after the historic run into the College Football Playoff.

That wasn’t the case. Emani Bailey added 1,209 yards rushing with eight touchdowns. Meanwhile, Josh Hoover threw for 2,206 yards since getting his first start of the season in mid-October. Hoover is a freshman thrower who has shown a lot of promise.

The TCU program isn’t dead. But the Over 7.5 win total bets are. That was one of the worst college football bets of the year.

There are still some futures on the board. But you won’t see TCU listed in any of the college football lines today.
