USC Trojans Team 2023 Future Odds: National Championship, Conference, Regular Season Wins, and Player Props+

Trojans Favored to Win 40th Pac-12 Title!

There are many NCAA Football teams to be intrigued about, but perhaps none more than the USC Trojans. According to our USC Trojans ATS stats chart, after two straight losing seasons against the spread, the Trojans bounced back with an 8-5 ATS mark in 2022. Despite the winning season, USC is just 15-16 ATS (-208 units) over the last three seasons, and 25-29 ATS (-569 units) since 2018-2019. USC should be plenty hungry to get back on the field after missing out on a berth in the College Football Playoff after a loss in the Pac-12 Title Game to #11 Utah, 47-24, in Las Vegas.

A Screeching Halt to A Once-Magical Season

We think when second-year head coach, Lincoln Riley, had a chance to step back and evaluate what his USC Trojans had accomplished after a 4-win season in 2021, he’ll find a way to be proud after falling one game short of the National Championship Playoff. Throwing out the late loss to Tulane in their bowl game, the focus has to be on producing another Heisman Trophy winner when Caleb Williams took home the school’s eighth winner in addition to setting the tone for the USC final run at a Pac-12 championship.

The road to Houston won’t happen without a few bumps. Riley will have to replace WR Jordan Addison who took his talents to the NFL (Minnesota). The hole left by Addison will be a blip in the past with the Trojans adding Zachariah Branch, ranked second in the nation from Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, and 5-star Makai Lemon and top-ranked QB Malachi Nelson from Los Alamitos High School in California. TE Duce Robinson committed to the program at the end of March to put the finishing touches on a recruiting class that ESPN has as #10 after the Robinson commitment.

That makes seven ESPN top 300 players heading to Southern Cal. Things won’t be as easy on defense unless they can improve on a secondary that was ranked 112th in the nation against the pass, and 101st overall (415.1 yards per game) according to 2023 USC Trojan stats. The Trojans cashed an (over) season win total ticket with their 11 wins (9.5), that success has caused bookmakers to push that number up to 10 this season.

National Championship Odds: Utes Remain Trojans Main Roadblock

Last season, USC NCAAF odds opened at +3500 to win the National Title, but this season the Trojans clearly have the oddsmaker’s respect after opening as high as +700 at some books. Before we can start legitimately talking about the Trojans as National Title contenders, they need to figure out how to get past the Utah Utes after losing twice to Kyle Whittingham’s team.

We talked about how the Trojans must play better on the defensive end to start thinking about being one of College Football’s elite, they must figure out how not to give up a combined 90 points to the Utes, not to mention another 46 in their bowl loss to Tulane.

Regular Season Wins: Trojans Number Too Solid To Bet

There are three opponents on the Trojan schedule that USC lost to in their last meeting and a few more where the game can go either way. With 11 games on the schedule, it’s tough to bet the over 9.5 wins because it’s not inconceivable to see losses to Utah, Notre Dame, and at Oregon. The last time the Trojans matched up against the Washington Huskies in 2019, Washington handed USC a 28-14 loss, even though the USC program was in a different place back then.

USC should roll through their first five games before heading to South Bend to take on Notre Dame, who will be playing in a revenge spot after being outplayed badly for two and a half quarters at the Coliseum last season, 38-27. After USC took a 24-7 lead to start the second half, the Irish outscored the Trojans 20-14 over the final 21 minutes. We think the number is right where it should be and betting on either side (over/under) comes with too many outcome variables to get involved.

To Make Playoffs: Oddsmakers Have USC Out of Playoffs

Unlike the NFL, we don’t have early numbers on teams making the College Football postseason, but one could look at future odds and get a good idea of what the fate of the Trojans will be according to oddsmakers. As of now, USC is the fifth choice to win a National Championship (+1400) behind Georgia (+225), Ohio State (+600), Alabama (+600), and Michigan (+900). Next year that will be good enough to make the playoffs, but this year just four are invited and it looks like it’s a safe bet to count the Trojans out until they can solve their Utus problem. That does it for our USC Trojans ATS stats review and preview for the upcoming season, we wish you all the best with your College Football prop wagers.
