Can The New York Jets Add Another Win Before Aaron Rodgers Returns?

Review The Jets vs Dolphins Expert Pick For Sunday's Early Matchup

The New York Jets have a low probability of making the postseason. However, after a win against the Texans last week, the Jets are 5-8 with a crucial road matchup against the Miami Dolphins this weekend.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins will have a short week to prepare for the Jets after losing against the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football. With that heartbreaking loss, Miami is sitting at 9-4 on the season.

The Dolphins are still close to clinching the postseason. The AFC playoff schedule will be released in a month, along with the 2023 NFL playoff bracket.

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

The Dolphins have been the talk of the NFL world this season. The offense has been incredible throughout the entire season. However, the Jets have been the opposite. The New York offense has struggled a lot this season.

But on Sunday, after being benched for two consecutive games, Jets quarterback Zach Wilson earned another opportunity in the pouring rain against the Houston Texans. With that opportunity, he added 301 yards passing and two passing touchdowns in a 30-6 win.

After that win, there’s more hype around the Jets. But will that hype be enough to take down the Dolphins on the road?

The Dolphins are currently -8.5 at home against the Jets, with the total sitting at 40.5. Miami was a 12.5-point favorite before their loss to the Titans. The moneyline has dropped from -720 to -420 for the Dolphins.

Jets vs Dolphins Expert Pick Trends

The New York Jets finally covered a game. They’re 5-7 on the season against the spread. However, before their game against the Texans, the Jets had lost five straight games against the spread. They hadn’t covered a game in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, the total has hit the Under in eight of 12 games this season. The Jets are just 2-3 on the road this year.

On the other hand, the Dolphins have covered eight of 13 NFL matchups. However, in their last game, Miami’s undefeated streak at home collided against the Titans. The Dolphins are now 5-1 at home this season.

Finally, the total has reached the Over in eight of 13 games this year.

Miami and New York last played on November 24, when the Dolphins earned a 34-13 win over the Jets as 10-point favorites at home. Now, the Dolphins are -8.5 at home.

Could Aaron Rodgers Return For The Jets?

Head coach Robert Salah admitted that you shouldn’t hold your breath that Aaron Rodgers will return to the football field this week.

However, numerous reports have shown that the Jets could activate Aaron Rodgers and start him against the Washington Commanders in New York’s next game.

At 5-8, the Jets don’t have a high probability of making the playoffs. However, if Zach Wilson and the Jets knock off the Dolphins this weekend, the Jets would have a higher likelihood of making the playoffs.

That’s when they can turn to Aaron Rodgers. However, it’s unlikely that the Jets will throw Rodgers in the fire if they don’t have a chance at playing in the playoffs.

With Washington, Cleveland, and New England left on the roster, the Jets would feel confident with Rodgers to finish the season.

Are The Dolphins Super Bowl Contenders?

The Dolphins have bought into head coach Mike McDaniel. With that, the Dolphins have looked like the best offense in the NFL this season. But they’ve also added a top-ten defense this year.

The best teams in the NFL are balanced. Balanced NFL teams win Super Bowls.

Miami has all the pieces to do just that, despite its recent loss to the Titans.

Omar Kelly of Sports Illustrated has spoken about Miami’s leadership. McDaniel has done a great job as head coach. However, Kelly acknowledged that Tua Tagovailoa has shown humility and that Tyreek Hill has some arrogance that keeps the team believing. They’ve demonstrated ultimate growth as a group and have all the different kinds of people that you need to win consistently.

It’s a great mix that has given the Dolphins a chance to win the Super Bowl this year.

Could The Jets Surprise?

On Friday, November 24, the New York Jets lost to the Miami Dolphins, 34-13. The Jets got just 179 yards out of backup quarterback Tim Boyle, who also threw one touchdown and two interceptions.

Boyle was sacked seven times and was eventually cut a week later for his poor play.

Now, the Jets will start Zach Wilson again. He’s got new-found confidence and just threw for over 300 yards in the pouring rain against a quality Houston defense.

Meanwhile, the Jets’ defense held Miami’s quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, to 243 yards. Tagovailoa only threw for one touchdown and also had two interceptions.

While the run game added 4.5 yards per carry, the offense didn’t play lights out despite the 34-13 score. It was the turnovers.

But Wilson rarely turns the ball over when he’s locked in. He fumbled the ball on a first-down run last weekend but didn’t throw an interception. Wilson has just seven interceptions in 11 games, which is actually pretty good.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins have a very solid secondary. They’ve done great in the pass rush and continue to perform well against the run. Miami has really grown over the season on the defensive end. Wilson won’t be nearly as comfortable as he was against Houston.

Again, Boyle took seven sacks for the Jets against Miami.

But if Wilson can limit turnovers and at least allow the Jets to punt the ball, this game will be lower-scoring. The Jets want to limit possessions and make it hard for Miami’s offense to get in rhythm. The best way for the Jets to win this game is by allowing the clock to tick with short completed passes and a solid running game.
