The Philadelphia Eagles are 2-1-1 against the spread this NFL season. They’re also 6-1 ATS in their last seven games against Los Angeles. The total has gone Over in four of the Eagles’ last five games. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Rams are 3-0-1 ATS this season and 4-0-1 over their last five games. The total has gone Over in five of the Rams’ last six games at home. That’s important to remember when assessing the Eagles vs Rams odds.

Eagles Flying High

At 4-0, the Philadelphia Eagles are a legitimate threat to get back to the Super Bowl. Besides San Francisco (4-0), they’re the only other undefeated team remaining.

The Eagles maintained their perfect start in Week 4, edging the Commanders 34-31 in overtime. It was their third single-digit win this season and the first time they did not cover the spread. The Eagles, an 8.5-point favorite, got 319 yards and two touchdowns from Jalen Hurts.

Hurts is now +800 to win his first NFL MVP, placing him fourth on the odds board behind Josh Allen (+400), Patrick Mahomes (+550) and Tua Tagovailoa (+550). He’s also +2500 to win NFL Offensive Player of the Year. Thanks in large part to Hurts, the Eagles are averaging the fifth-most yards in the league (392). They also rank second in rushing (165.3 yards per game).

No surprise, oddsmakers remain bullish on Philadelphia. The Eagles are +300 to defend their NFC title and +750 to win Super Bowl LVIII. Only the 49ers (+550) and Chiefs (+600) currently have better odds.

The current NFL odds will likely continue to grow, as only one of Philadelphia’s next four games is against a team with a winning record. The Eagles are a bona fide contender, and there’s not much slowing them down. Buy, buy, buy when it comes to Philadelphia.

LA on the Right Path

The Los Angeles Rams beat the Indianapolis Colts 29-23 in overtime in Week 5 to even their record at 2-2. The Rams, a 1.5-point favorite, nearly blew a 23-0 lead before surviving thanks to Puka Nacua’s 22-yard touchdown catch. In the process, they stayed perfect ATS at 3-0-1.

Nacua, a fifth-round pick out of BYU, has been a revelation for Los Angeles. In his first four games, he’s caught an NFL-high 39 passes for 501 yards per live NFL stats. As such, he’s jumped to +550 for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year after beginning the season off the board.

The question is, with All-Pro receiver Cooper Kupp set to return soon from a hamstring injury, will Nacua’s role be impacted? Perhaps that’s a good problem to have for the Rams, who have looked slightly better than expected in the early going. On the heels of a 5-12 finish in 2022, the Rams were projected for only 7.5 wins.

But the emergence of several playmakers, including Nacua and running back Kyren Williams, a fifth-rounder in 2022 out of Notre Dame, has helped keep Los Angeles competitive. So, too, has the health of quarterback Matthew Stafford, who played in only nine games last NFL season before ending the year on IR with a spinal cord contusion.

Stafford has been a full participant in practice this week after injuring his hip against Indianapolis. Meanwhile, Williams (hip) has been limited but is also expected to play, according to head coach Sean McVay. That bodes well for Los Angeles. Keep that in mind when analyzing the Eagles vs Rams odds.

Handicapping the Game

The Rams have gotten off to an encouraging start, but this is a particularly difficult NFL matchup. Stafford has already been sacked nine times in four games. Six of those sacks came in a Sept. 25 loss to Cincinnati. That inability to protect Stafford is worrisome, especially against the Eagles’ vaunted pass rush. On top of that, the 35-year-old Stafford is coming off a hip injury, which could limit his mobility.

Philadelphia is simply too much for Los Angeles to handle at this time. Look for Philadelphia to cover the NFL spread on the road.
