Running Back
After being down 9-6 to the Arizona Cardinals in the first half, the Los Angeles Rams turned to Kyren Williams. The running back single-handedly ran all over Arizona as Los Angeles outscored them 20-0 to run away with the game. Williams compiled 156 rushing yards all in the second half. Unfortunately, Kyren Williams’ stats came at a heavy price: his ankle.
Kyren Williams’s Stats for 2023
The Rams May Have Had Something in Williams
Alas, they may not find out until much later. Williams suffered an ankle injury following the Cardinals game. Head coach Sean McVay said, “The initial prognosis looks like it’s going to be challenging for those guys in the immediate future.” That’s a tough break for both the Rams and Williams.
The running back set a career-high with 158 rushing yards – 154 came in the second half. It’s the first time a Rams player rushed for 150+ yards in a half since Marshall Faulk in 2001. Williams was unstoppable as this performance was the breakout some thought he was capable of.
The sophomore already had a few big games in the past. He rushed for 103 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Rams beat the Colts in overtime. And against San Francisco, Williams compiled 100 yards from scrimmage with a pair of touchdowns as the team infamously covered the NFL spread.
But this game against Arizona gave the Rams a glimpse of that dominant running back they have missed since Todd Gurley. The loss of Williams will impact the Rams’ NFL game results as the team now scrambles to find a back capable of replacing his production.
Kyren Williams’s Player Profile & Stats
Kyren Williams’s stats were modest before this season. He rushed for more yards in that Cardinals game than he did in the whole of 2022: 156 yards to 138 yards. Williams was behind Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson on the depth chart last season. Now, he’s been a pleasant surprise as the 164th overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Williams’s Current Stats
It will not be easy to replace Kyren Williams’s stats. The 23-year-old carried the ball in 97 of the team’s 136 rushing attempts involving running backs. If we exclude Akers’ carries, who is now with Minnesota, that’s 97 of 114 so 85% of the team’s carries from the backfield.

Rams Running to Sign a New Running Back
Williams was not the only running back the Rams lost. His backup, Ronnie Rivers, also got hurt and has the same fate: out indefinitely. This leaves Zach Evans as the team’s only running back on the active roster. Look for this NFL team to sign a free-agent running back within the week.
Los Angeles plays the 3-2 Pittsburgh on its NFL schedule next. The Rams are slightly favored on the NFL lines. For them to exploit Pittsburgh’s frail defense up front, the team will need to bolster its running game.
