Will Wilson’s Second Stint As Starting Quarterback Benefit The Jets?

The Texans vs Jets Odds Moved In The Jets Favor After Wilson Named The Starting QB

While the New York Jets had high expectations coming into the season, the Houston Texans didn’t truly know what to expect.

Heading into Week 14, the Texans are two games above .500 at 7-5, while the Jets are 4-8 after trying four different quarterbacks throughout the season.

The Jets signed Aaron Rodgers to be the next quarterback. However, he tore his Achilles almost instantly in Week 1. Therefore, the Jets tried to win games with Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle, and Trevor Semien. Nobody has gotten the job done.

On the other hand, the Texans drafted C.J. Stroud with the No. 2 overall pick in the most recent NFL Draft. He won’t win the MVP, but he’ll win the Offensive Rookie of the Year for his performances this season. Stroud already has over 3,500 yards passing with 20 touchdowns and only five interceptions.

Stroud’s healthy and will start on Sunday for the Texans. He’ll face Zach Wilson, who has been re-inserted into the starting lineup as the Jets’ quarterback.

Will Wison’s presence make any difference?

The oddsmakers think so. The Jets were sitting at +5.5 but have moved to +4.5 with the news that Zach Wilson would start. Wilson is worth at least one point, which should at least give Jets fans more hope.

Meanwhile, the total is at 32.5, which is one of the lowest totals we’ve seen in the NFL this season.

Take a look at the new Texans vs Jets odds, with Wilson named as the Jets’ starter this week.

Texans vs Jets Odds & Trends

The Texans have won more games straight up than they’ve won against the spread. Houston is only 6-6 against the spread this year.

The Texans have lost four of their last six NFL games against the spread after going on a run earlier this season in early September into October with four straight wins against the spread.

Houston’s had some high-level games offensively this year. However, the total has still hit the Under in eight of 12 games this season for the Texans.

On the other hand, the Jets have lost five straight games against the spread. They’re now 4-7-1 this season. Once the Jets sent Wilson to the bench, things got even uglier, with terrible results on both sides of the field.

Like the Texans, the Under has hit in eight of 12 games this season.

Finally, the Jets are 2-5 at home, while the Texans are 2-3 on the road. The Jets won the last meeting against Houston in 2021, 21-14 as 2.5-point underdogs.

Zach Wilson’s Back At QB1

The Jets have stalled terribly over the last few weeks without Zach Wilson. While Wilson had been bad throughout the season, the offense somehow got worse when he was benched and demoted to QB3.

The Jets cut Tim Boyle earlier this week and brought in Brett Rypien. With Trevor Semien still on the roster, the Jets have elected to start Wilson at quarterback this weekend.

There were earlier reports that stated Wilson was reluctant to play. However, head coach Robert Salah and Aaron Rodgers suggested that those reports were bogus.

At 4-8, the Jets should allow Wilson to sling the ball around without thinking. There’s no pressure at 4-8.

Tank Dell’s Rookie Season Is Over

Rookie wide receiver Tank Dell played in 11 games and compiled 47 catches for 709 yards with seven touchdowns.

However, last week, Dell fractured his fibula and will miss the remainder of the season.

Dell was looking like one of the best rookie wideouts in the NFL. His chemistry with C.J. Stroud was also very noticeable.

At 7-5, Houston is going to miss Dell. However, Noah Brown and Nico Collins should be the two receivers who will step up in his place.

Don’t Trust The Jets

There are two ways that this game can go for the Jets.

They either unleash Zach Wilson, and he shines, or they let him loose, and he throws a bunch of turnovers and puts the Jets in a worse position.

But even if Wilson shines, C.J. Stroud can still go toe-to-toe with Wilson. Yes, even against the Jets’ defense, that has started to fatigue.

New York legitimate has one of the best defenses in the NFL. But you can tell that they’re starting to fall apart. They’re being called for flags in the secondary and struggling to get stops in crucial moments.

That’s because the Jets go three-and-out and force the defense to get right back on the field with no breaks.

Meanwhile, Houston has a respectable secondary. The pass rush is also above average. While the Texans can use more practice tackling, it won’t matter too much if the Jets can’t get the ball to their playmakers in space.

New York has scored 14.25 points per game. But that number has decreased once Wilson was benched. Wilson could honestly play better than any game this season. There’s no more pressure on Wilson. The Jets don’t need to play to win. They need to go have fun out there and wait for next season with Aaron Rodgers.

We won’t find the Jets at the top of the NFL AFC standings this NFL season. That’s why the Texans vs Jets odds have Houston favored.

With the Jets’ defense fatigued, we’ll ride the Over 32.5. Don’t worry about getting into the NFL point spreads in this matchup.
