Holm vs Bueno Silva Odds: Ready To Earn the Title Shot
An Impressive Win For Either Could Put Them in Line for the Belt

UFC Odds Favor Holm in Another Main Event
Another main event and another win for Holly Holm? That’s what the Holm vs Bueno Silva odds indicate, with the former listed as a -175 favorite and shortening. The former UFC champion is now potentially two wins away from regaining her title after seven years. Holm has won three of her last four fights since losing her previous title shot. Given how much the UFC loves Holm, she has to beat Bueno Silva.

Bueno Silva Gets Noticed
Who is Mayra Bueno Silva? Most UFC fans may just be getting acquainted with her. The Brazilian is no slouch, having won all three of her fights at bantamweight. Four of her wins in the UFC have also come via submission. As it alludes to, Bueno Silva is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist who’s rounding out the rest of her game.
She last submitted Lina Lansberg via a kneebar. Following that victory, she hopped on the mic and called out former title challenger Raquel “Rocky” Pennington.
“I don’t know. Sometimes, you need to talk bull**** for good fights,” Silva said during the post-fight conference. “Then I thought of Raquel Pennington because I love Raquel Pennington. I love her style. In the UFC, in this division, now I’m top 10, I believe. In the top 10, every fight is difficult. Every fighter is good. Then I think of Miesha (Tate) and me. I think, ‘Let’s go.’
Silva was supposed to fight Tate, the former champion. But Tate pulled out and was replaced by Holm. Ultimately, it worked out for Bueno Silva, who now becomes one of the latest UFC fighters to headline an event.
The Holm vs Bueno Silva odds are bearish on Bueno Silva’s chances of beating Holm. While grapplers have beaten Holm in the past, Bueno Silva’s wrestling leaves much to be desired. She’s only averaged 0.38 takedowns per 15 minutes. In comparison, Holm averages 0.92.
Bueno Silva also absorbs over 4.7 significant strikes per minute. Manon Fiorot and Maryna Moroz both beat her up on the feet at 125 pounds. Holm figures to be a trickier fighter than both. If Bueno Silva wants to be noticed, she’ll need to beat Holm. Instead, she may be another opponent Holm dispatches.
Holm Has a Window To Another Championship Reign
While Bueno Silva is still trying to get noticed, Holm is this close to regaining her title. After being upset by Tate in 2016, Holm has had three different title shots. She lost all of them. Still, the Jackson Wink MMA fighter kept working and continues to show new wrinkles in her game.
Holm is primarily a striker focused on movement. She’s hard to get a bead on (unless you’re Amanda Nunes and Cris Cyborg). But lately, Holm has shown off her newfound grappling chops. Against Yana Santos, she took her down four times and looked like an NCAA Division I wrestler in doing so. Two fights before that, Holm took Irene Aldana down five times.
Despite losing a contentious decision to Ketlen Vieira, the Holm vs Bueno Silva odds favor the 41-year-old because of her wrestling. Holm is also notoriously difficult to take down. Vieira landed just one of her seven attempts. Overall, Holm has defended 78% of her opponents’ takedown attempts.
Holm is not only favored by the UFC odds tonight, but so is the fight to go over 4½ rounds at -190. She should keep the fight standing and outpoint Bueno Silva to a decision. It may not be a spectacular finish, but it’s a solid win that puts Holm back in title contention.
