Dana White Expresses His Feelings on Jon Jones: ‘F*ck That Punk’

The UFC President Didn’t Hold Back Anything When Texting ABout the Heavyweight Champ

Draaaaamaaa!

I love the dramatics we often witness in UFC news because, unlike every other sport on the planet, disputes that arise can be settled with a legitimate fistfight rather than a numbers game or an exchange of profanities. Unfortunately for most fighters, when your actions result in the boss being pissed, the only punch you’ll throw is at yourself.

In the latest media debacle surrounding the planet’s No.1 mixed martial arts promotion, UFC President Dana White had some choice words when discussing one of the greatest UFC fighters ever to do it, Jon Jones. This is legit, BTW, not UFC rumors.

Yesterday, Steven Marrocco released a report based on the most recent release of antitrust documents (a lawsuit the UFC is currently fighting). The report provides details of talks between Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta regarding negotiations over a contract between the UFC and Jon Jones.

The text message talks, which took place in 2014, revolved around Jones’ insistence on rejecting the proposed figures for a hypothetical rematch with Alexander Gustafsson. The hold-up, according to Dana White, came in the shape of Daniel Cormier since that was who Jones actually wanted to fight next.

What Did Dana White Say About Jon Jones?

“What’s up with Jones? Did he straighten up, or is he still being a scumbag?” White said to former UFC Chairman Lorenzo Fertitta via text.

“Still a douche, but we’re inching closer,” Fertitta replied. “Haven’t moved on money but sent the letter with an ultimatum.”

“Awesome,” White replied. “F*ck that punk, Lorenzo. He must know we don’t need him, or he will f*ck us over more than he already does.”

Talk about reiterating the term, “nobody is bigger than the company.” God damn, Dana, you savage.

What’s more amusing to me is that the words were exchanged long before Jon Jones completely went off the rails, began his drink and drug-fuelled lifestyle, got himself arrested several times, including DUI, and went on a long-term hiatus from the Octagon.

That being said, it would seem that no matter how much hardball the UFC has played with “Bones Jones,” he’s never jumped when the company clapped, which probably explains the frustration in the text messages.

Jones later abstained from participating in any UFC fights for a period exceeding three years, commencing in February 2020 and concluding in March 2023, due to another contractual disagreement with the organization about his desired compensation for a highly anticipated bout against the reigning UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou. White openly criticized Jones, accusing him of demanding an exorbitant sum of money.

Although the anticipated confrontation did not materialize, when Jones ultimately made his comeback to compete against Ciryl Gane for the heavyweight championship, he earned a staggering sum of over $6 million, ranking among the most substantial remunerations in the history of the UFC.

He who laughs last laughs the longest.
